[Super Boom]

Nice, I just saw the Nintendo Direct trailer for PXZ last night. The gameplay looks pretty interesting. From what I gather, the fight scenes in the video are basically fight cinematics that take place when you initiate combat, but I could be wrong about the gameplay. The co-op combat system sort of reminds of Bleach: The 3rd Phantom, another SRPG produced by Sega a few years back. I really hope it makes it over here!

On the subject of Nintendo Direct, they also announced a firmware update for the 3DS to be released this Wednesday (4/25) in the U.S. (I haven't heard anything about other regions yet).
3DS Firmware Update

The big update here is that they're finally incorporating a game-patching system into the 3DS. This is a big deal, since they're already planning on fixing that stupid Mario Kart 7 glitch through a patch. I'm glad to hear they're not completely forsaking the problem.

The other update is a handy system to sort items on the 3DS Home Menu with Folders. I'm really looking forward to this update. I got the 20 free Ambassador games for getting my 3DS before the price drop, and I've already bought 4 games on the eShop, so my Home Menu is a cluttered mess with over 30 items on it. It'll be nice to sort everything into 'Zelda', 'Mario', or just 'Demo' folders.

Bumping with some new 3DS News!

New Super Mario Bros. 2 to Receive Simultaneous Digital/Retail Release

Basically, it looks like actual retail games are going to be released digitally onto the 3DS, as well as physically, starting with this new Mario game. From what I've heard, the actual price of the digital versions won't be significantly cheaper than the retail copies, if at all, but it sounds like it'll bring down the price for regions prone to heavy mark-ups on games. So that's good news for 3DS owners who are tired of paying twice as much for games being imported into their areas.
It also sounds pretty convenient too. I might have to buy a bigger SD card, if more titles are released this way.

I also have more Fire Emblem: Awakening news!

Awakening came out 10 days ago in Japan, and it's doing absolutely phenomenal right now. Like, record-breaking sales phenomenal. Heck, if you go on VGChartz right now, you'll see it's actually the #1 GLOBAL Top-selling game this week. Which is amazing, considering it's not only a Fire Emblem title, but it hasn't even been released outside of Japan yet. If Nintendo is having any doubts about porting this outside of Japan and EU, hopefully this'll be an eye-opener.

Anyhoo, here's more random DLC news.

Roy and Leaf Confirmed
Micaiah and Alm Confirmed

For those who don't know the characters, Roy, Leaf, Micaiah, and Alm are 'Lord' characters from FE 6, FE 4/5, FE 10, and FE 2. If you've only played localizations, you might recognize Micaiah from Radiant Dawn, and Roy from the ending sequence of Fire Emblem (and Super Smash Bros. Melee obviously). With Marth being confirmed earlier, that makes five DLC characters confirmed already.

There are also several free characters that can be downloaded from SpotPass; right now consisting of:
Siglud, Diadora, Cuan, Ethlin, Arden, Ira, Jamka, Rackesis, Levn and Alvis from FE 4.
Innes from Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (FE 8)
Clea from FE 2

Finally, they're releasing new Awakening artwork for all the DLC characters. You can find most of them on the links I've posted, but I might as well share here anyway.

The artwook looks a lot different for most of them, but I kind of like it. I'm definitely liking Micaiah's outfit.

Fire Emblem: Awakening Demo is out on the North American eShop today, if anyone with a 3DS here is interested. I know I've been hyping myself up for this since E3 last year, but the demo is pretty solid. Only two levels, though, so it goes by pretty fast. The Dual Fighter option is interesting, and I'd like to do more with the Avatar Creator tool. I'm also really impressed with the voice acting, I wonder if Nintendo outsourced it again (like with Kid Icarus: Uprising).



Just 2.5 more weeks.

Did you get it at Gamestop? I've heard they're selling it already, even though the official release date is this Monday. I ordered my copy online, since Gamestop had a preorder bonus. I'm looking forward to my free artbook.

Seriously, though, how is it so far? The demo was awesome, and the reviews have been pretty great (currently sitting at a 91 on Metacritic). I'm so psyched for this game.

Girl-Marth or Prince Marth?

I decided to do Hard Mode-Classic for my first playthrough, so it's forcing me to take my time with it. I freaking love this game though. I haven't played FE 1-6, but it feels like its taken the best elements out of all the games I have played. The Avatar from FE 7, World Map from FE 8, character and story similarities to the console games, and the support system from the handheld ones. That marriage feature is awesome XD. So far, I have Sully/Stahl, and I'm working on Chrom/Sumia and Avatar/Cordelia, though I might change my mind on the last one.

I don't like how enemy reinforcements appear at the beginning of the Enemy Phase. I know some of the past games have done that (at least FE 11 I believe), but I'm still getting used to working my strategies around it. Though that's literally my only issue with this game right now, and I'll probably get used to it anyway. XD

This article on Kotaku raises some interesting points about the 3DS. I definitely feel like I've been using it regularly, despite not having bought any new games for months. It's just perfect for both quick plays and extended sessions. Lately, I've been playing quick sessions of 5~ minutes with Pilotwings in both mission and free-flight modes for unlocks, and before that I was focused on getting 100% in Super Mario 3D Land.

The other wonderful thing about 3DS is that you can play it anywhere. You don't feel chained to a desk or TV.

Maybe I'll treat myself to a new 3DS game this weekend.

It's funny, after playing the demo, I was expecting to have Sully/Virion. I guess something just clicked for me with Sully/Stahl. It's kinda refreshing, turning the red knight/green knight archetypes into a couple. Sully motivates Stahl to be more outgoing, and he looks at her as an equal, regardless of her gender.

They make one hell of a tag team too.

I'm actually the same way. Ever since getting Kid Icarus for Christmas, and now having Fire Emblem, my 3DS has by far been getting the most use out of any of my gaming devices. The variety of titles, all the eShop games (and random Ambassador ones), having my big DS backlog instantly available to it, and all the quality titles coming out this year...honestly, I have to say I can only agree with article.

And look at this, another reason to not put it down!
