I forgot the chapter number, but I stopped when Megumi made that rainbow thing in the training camp thing.
I don't know. I stopped reading at eleven pm and I guess it had me thinking too much. About the manga and about other things. My mind wouldn't stop

Yeah like, rainbow vegetables exist My mind raced as I wondered what other mysterious things exist out there in the universe. And since it was about food Ryo sort of popped into my head.

That still limiting. You got to make it identifiable, which is when Soma got the feeling that he wouldn't win. Akira pulled all or nothing while Soma did so but not able to make it stand out differently. It was this point that Akira put it all to win it. It's like in Haikyuu!! where one guy is top tier but having trouble with Karusano until he was told to end it which he put all of his work into it and yeah. Besides, they pointed out the point of his problem, which surely a lot of first years in this arc would develop. I see nothing real problem with it.
Yeah that was the reason given, though in previous battle the same reason was pointed out as a weakness, as I said with Alice, she lost because she relied heavily on her skill on the science of food. The only reason Akira one was to reiterate his father words about cooking for someone, Akira was cooking for the sensie and the mangaka had him win to show that to Souma, his actual dish itself didn't seem like it was worthy of the win, but more that because he had a better relationship with Sensie than the other guy had with Alice, he was given the nod.
The problem with Soma wasn't that he didn't expand his cooking it was he expanded it too much, he took on skills and techniques he learnt from all his previous battles,and integrated them into his cooking, however he had no unique taste that was his own, he took various different idea's but there was nothing unique to him. You could say he was a Jack of all trades but a master of none.
It just didn't mesh well, strongely if the other guy had won, and the same reason was given I would have OK with the win, I actually never expected Souma to win, I knew it would have been one of the other two, however the manner in with Akira won was where my issue was, it didn't make sense in the context of the previous chapters, and battles.

About Erina's attitude towards Souma: I don't know if this a decision done by the translators, but did anyone notice how Erina has lately started referring to Soma as "Yukihira-kun"? She used to just cry out his entire full name "Yukihira Soma" all the time. Nice to see that she has warming up to him lately.

That's true. Give it more time to develop. Not sure how long but glad people are giving her chances. I kind of like how the writer approaches this progress. It's slow and barely noticeable, but that makes it all so more realistic. Many people still hate on her, but they did notice how she behaves differently towards him as of lately. Hope the writer can pull it of though, lol.
No matter what Kishi did, Sakura always was always the most hated character in Naruto...

Well As far as I know she only calls his full name when he surprises her out of the blue like when the bumped into each other at the hotspring. She calls him Yukihira-kun under more civil and casual circumstances. 
But yes she seems a bit more relaxed around him if just a little. At least she isn't blowing a gasket just seeing at his face, and her condescending tone is reduced somewhat. 
But you know I also ship Megumi X Soma and Erina X Megumi too. At least Megumi has deveopment for him so it makes just as much sense as Soma and Erina. It's only I have a good feeling about the latter pairing, though I'm preparing myself for it to not come true.

That's only in the west though and I theorize it was because she was all childish and annoying around Sasuke, while being an infuriating and unsympathetic tsudere to Naruto. At least at first but I guess most western fans never wanted to see past first impressions and her "dear" creator never used his brain enough to do any well execution for her development .

Kishi missed the ball with her when he decided to have her continue to love Sasuke or more focus on love and became the vocal point of her character. Erina is more than that, even with that hint back in chapter 1, since you would think that women would just be that, but it's much more than that. Kishi had the perfect opportunity in the beginning of part 2, but instead, he apparently forgot about her, which was a huge no-no in writing department. Erina isn't forgotten, just not the time to pull the trigger.

The only reason why I thought it was something noteworthy was b/c others said it.
I ship SomaxMegumi, too ^_^ And Nikumi always behaves so adoringly around Soma 
(never thought she would end up as one of my favorites, lol).

Yeah, whatever Kishi did, he always missed the opportunity to let her grow out of her obsession with Sasuke. ALWAYS. Ch.693 still has me scarred. On what page you'd think she would rage at Sasuke, but no, the next page was just a huge letdown. No matter what Kishi made her do, she always remained the most laughable character for the western fans.
The popularity poll shows that despite Erina's meak appearances here and there, she impresses the audience- well, most of them. I'm surprised that she got ranked that high, but I'm damn sure that it's not just b/c of her appearance and Tsundere qualities. I doubt the Japanese fandom is so narrowminded as the western audience has claimed it to be as I've seen in some forums -.-

Some poll doesn't make sense and some do. Haikyuu made sense for the most part. Some of Naruto doesn't like Iruka remain to be the top 5 until the last one. NnT was something else. Lol. Soma, well, it seems accurate for the most part. Honestly, it feels like the one that makes the most sense is TG.

Romance is sakura attribute. It's her character design.
But sakura has other side which barely or never get touch.
Not a typical one yes, but she shows some traits of the behaviour towards Naruto. Prime case in point anger born of worry. But that is besides the issue. my main point is that there was no justice done to her character and the fact that her worst aspect was never permited to be grown out of and actually got worse with time did not help things. And I wouldn't say romance is her character design but Love in general. Though I wish it weren't just all that in the end, cause that is plain, not to mention wasted potential.

Hmm....I don't know why but from all the girls Megumi seems to be the only one helped by Souma who I don't think actually looks at him in a romantic sense, but admires him for his actions and respects him for giving her confidence.
If ou look at the interaction between Megumi and Souma you'd think it was more but consdering the type of charactor Megumi is, her interaction with Souma seems very normal and friendly. She's the typical trope that if she actually liked Souma romantically he'd be stuttering and making mistakes etx. But from all the girls, she seems to be the one who acts normal around him.

Well I completel forgot about that panel, My excuse is it happened over a year ago, and Souma is not a manga i'm as dedicated to as others.
I'm surprised he is going for Chinese dishes, I thought the point of the him losing the contest was to point out his flaw of not having a speciality, and running himself too thin, but here he is challenging someone with Chinese food, when he doesn't specialise in it.
