Nope, not yet. They're still fighting Big Mom's crew. They're ok though.

Luffy isn't fighting them for much or a reason though, to be honest. He planned on taking them out anyway, firman island is really just an added bonus to beating Big Mom.

Well he planned on beating Kaido because Law told him that was what the alliance was for. Big Mom on the other hand he declared war on because she was threatening the Fishman Island. Luffy and we the viewers/readers found out that Law made the alliance to use the Straw Hats so that he (or the Straw Hats) could kill Doflamingo. When Luffy found out he didn't care, but Law stated (while laying on the ground talking to Cavendish) that destroying the SMILE production, and taking out Doflamingo would turn Kaido's anger at their alliance. It's obvious that it will because all the people in the underground trade that were buying SMILE turned their anger to them. We even saw someone put knives through their bounties. Instead of Luffy saying "I'm going to beat Kaido up to get a step closer to being the Pirate King!" He can say "Let the samurais go!" Which one sounds more like Luffy fighting? I've seen him say "there can only be one pirate king," but he said it while fighting an enemy for protecting something else.

There are other speculations that Smoker and Tashigi might be heading to Zoe where Vegapunk is. Merchandising schedule suggest that Wano will be the next major arc starting this year around summer. Wano is basically comic con for Tashigi which is like nerd land for her (swords and samurais). There are fans who speculate that G5 will help the curly straw hats as well and could be an excuse for the captain to go with them.

 

Fans also speculate that the new schibukai might be the boss of Wano (zoo's opponent of course) and is a wielder of an ichimonji among the silhouettes teased (meaning that he is no easy customer).

But how does that take away from what I said? Luffy is going to become King of the Pirates, but the way Oda is setting it up, Luffy won't have to beat anyone without them being made into a villain for Luffy. The only people Luffy might have to beat that wouldn't be a villain would be his two friends, Shanks and Cody.

He's stated that he wants to fight Shanks and Cody multiple times in the New World and Luffy strives for adventure and adventure means taking down strong people and that's the 4 Emps he doesn't need a full blown reason to do so.

*throws stuff at you* UGHHHHH!!! I know that! What I'm saying is that Oda is making it more than just "taking out people to advance on his journey/adventure to becoming pirate king." He is making Luffy angry at his opponents by making them villains. There is more thrill in knowing the main character is going all out when he isn't just doing it for himself, but for the good of others as well. When we see him do his most powerful attacks (jet gatling gun), he is doing it with passion of protecting others. When it is just about him and his mission to become pirate king. He is either laughing, or not giving it much thought. Two examples. He laughs when Smoker and Buggy fight him, and he punches Bellamy and calmly points to the sky as it's his next destination.

 

Look up "cool Luffy" on google images, and I bet you that you'll see mostly pictures of an angry Luffy. That's the Luffy we get when he fights an enemy in his way that's a villain. To make the adventure of One piece stay a masterpiece, Oda makes sure we see heartfelt battles. The full blown reasons are needed. As the saying goes. One Piece is about the adventure, not the destination. Luffy finding the One Piece and becoming the Pirate King being the destination. Also Zoro marrying Tashigi. That's also the destination.

What? Those two pictures represent that Nami just ran away, and Tashigi stayed and protected her squad. Then Zoro walked up and 1 hit Monet for his bae after he saw she couldn't finish her off.
