I gotta admit... I didn't like Riku during the first Kingdom Hearts. I thought he as a D*** towards Sora.

He was fine in the beginning til after traverse town pt 2 and after that til after you beat him when he's possessed by xenhanort he was a dock but not on sasukes levels and at the end of the first game til now riku is the best developed character in the series. Chain of memories, 358/2 days, 2, and dream drop showed his development and how much he really cares about sora and his friends. Plus his redemption was perfectly done and he is so much more likable even at his worse riku is.

He's still a better writer than kishi and does the whole rival/friendship thing with riku and sora and the redemption thing with riku so much better than sasuke.

Ff8 is pretty much naruto love story, only this time the protagonist is emo "sasuke" while the "naruto" is an kitten. And the other "naruto" is pretty much a supportive character.
And that's tatsuya nomura who make it.

You mean final fantasy 8 maybe he's probably been getting better with a love story like with sora and kairi.

Well i admit. I also suck at romance. A lot of male authors do even the most talented.

I'll admit I have a problem sometimes with romance in my stuff, sometimes it's rushed and others it takes too long. I showed my friend a few of my stuff and he's said: "Why are they together so soon?" or "Why haven't they kittened yet"? It's a slippery slope.

I try to justify the acceleration of some of the romance I write by saying that they're teenagers in an emotional/intense situation and hormones will undoubtedly be skyrocketing due to this. Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse.

I find it better to see life AFTER they've become a couple. How does this change them, their friends, family, the world around them, and so on so forth.

Do you mean an epilogue?
Some do that like (shaman king, naruto & bleach), but most of the time romance end with the couple ending either they embrace each other or a wedding.

There in lies the other problem which is that too many writers think the relationship end game is just that., the end.

 

They forget that just as many stories can be told about the relationship itself as how they got to it. Its one of the major failings of modern comics especially in Marvel and sometimes DC.

 

Marvels edict that no hero can be married or gasp reproduce is jsut plain stupid. Spiderman and Mary Jane were some compelling stories but no quesada came in and laid down the Peter must be eternally miserable edict and we got the abomination of OMD.

I agree with that, but on the other hand romance conflict is not as interesting as they were before they become a couple. That's why most romance story end when the couple happen.

This is interesting because usually in order to extent the story, romantic story will focus on the non romantic aspect, like twillight for example.
I think that's why non romantic story that have romantic element in it tend to use end couple in the end of the story and not in the middle.

I think that's the problem with (America superhero) comic in general in the sense that they want to maintain the status quo, since they are 50+ years old continuation. Thus to some extent, I can understand the decision to decanonize peterxmj.

I agree with that.
But in the end, they will reach the end point one way or another and for a long running franchise who relied on status quo, it's a no no.

I think that's one of the reason why there's no wedding with superman and Louis in the main continuity.

Have the story continue with their offspring, maybe that could happen.

I don't think that is really true. Being a male doesn't have bearing on whether or not you can write romance. There are plenty of males that can write romance better than many females. It isn't about the gender, it's about the individuals.
