That is the entire fiscal year that they are showing. However to show you how much of a difference the games and Yokai Watch's popularity made for their profits, take this into account. Their last fiscal year, Naruto was both the top seller and earner and Yokai Watch was #4 on both lists. They made just under half the amount of money they made this fiscal year.

 

So from April 2014 to March 2015 they made 2.4 billion yen, with no games being released during that period. From April 2015 to March 2016 they made almost 4.9 billion yen, thanks to massive sales of both the Chinese app game and the console game. 

 

Don't forget The Last release. The DVD/Blu-Ray sold good numbers. So it's a lot more than just a filler episode. The really role is to have Naruto exist and continue to shoot merchandise.

Huh must have forgotten that it was the full fiscal year but even then does anyone remember how much crap they were releasing into the market last year.

 

The final volume with the SNS box.

 

At least two series of light novels shot gunned out month after month for almost the entire year.

 

Two movies released internationally one shown at comiccon in New York.

 

The Gaiden.

 

The art show and the two books involved with that.

 

Apparently a chinese app game.

 

The last game cyber connect 2 is apparently going to be doing for Naruto.

That is interesting - you would think Naruto's staying power would outlast the ending. After all, it's been around for so long. But that's intersting to see that One Piece has firmly replaced Naruto as most popular. From everything I've heard about One Piece from other readers and even other mangakas, One Piece is really really good. So it's not surprising.

 

And yeah, I've wondered about Naruto's popularity - if it was still going as strong as it was at it's peak in the middle of the series, or if it was waning. From what you've said about the kids, it looks like Naruto's popularity was on the downslide, even though it was still going on.  

 

Wonder if this is why they went with Boruto as a series over a Minato/Kushina or other Konoha throwback series - trying to tap into a new generation of kids?

 

Anyway, super interesting! Thanks for sharing your Naruto experience! Hope you had a nice visit to Japan - I'd love to go there someday!!

One piece has always been number one in Japan. The only reason Kishimoto was Oda's rival was Naruto's international fanbase. It still had a fanbase in Japan making in the top ten in Japan at points. But remember what everyone keeps saying they don't care as much about pairing as US fans do. So once the story was abandon for a minor character they don't care about. They gone. Which in theory shouldn't matter since they were willing to abandon the Japanese for the international fanbase. Which should be Naruto's main money making power and why they wanted to continue it with Bolt. But since they are now constantly doing thing that are basically begging the Japanese fans to come back and don't leave them. You can see how that went.

It just also is their not caring about Naruto at all, since a lot pro-enders wanted this, and yet they cannot deal with the fact that they only care about getting what they want, not that the characters no longer make sense, that everything has been ruined... X_X All in all, I just wish the whole thing would burn down to the ground, considering too that the ending did a lot of things wrong, like messing up the aims Naruto potentially had as well as being congested.

 

I kept reading til the end because I had hope things would get better. But I guess the ending showed me one thing; don't have high expectations, and then you won't be let down if something doesn't go right in your mind... and then you won't be able to be disappointed like I was. In the end, the Naruto ending also has made me, a 32-year old man, feel as if he can't do anything, and shouldn't try to do new things, and should just stick to what I know and give up, since that's obviously what Naruto did. T_T

Oh, that's simple. No One! Likes! Bolt!!! Even nH fans know that. So they are desperate to find one of nH children that is likable because if they don't. Then that means Sakura produced a better more likable more interesting child then Hinata. And they can't stand it.

 

So the daughter. Being a spoiled brat attacking her brother over a stuff toy. In the process knocking her father out. Not caring that she did that. She then processed to hunt down her brother with the plan of beating him up. With an attack that causes internal damage. Ruining one of the biggest days of her fathers life over a stuff toy. Leds to nH fans saying. "What a great character. She was able to beat up the hokage." So instead of caring how far Naruto has fallen. They are trying to raise her up to an imaginary pedestal.

Also that since once again all the parallel in Naruto pointed to NS. So since bolt clearly hasn't inherited anything other then features from Naruto. The worst of his characteristic and features mind you. Clearly the mutant hybrid of nH must also have bits from MK as well.

Even the genius prodigy Neji need to land few hits to beat Hinata, but Himawari only need 1 hit to knock out cold Naruto.

 

What else ? ... maybe they gonna say Himawari is the next child of prophecy that will bring peace to the shinobi world since her father failed to do that.

Have you realized it by now? It is because the right woman wasn't hitting Naruto. Sakura was flat chested. While they are imagining 'the daughter' developing at least hinata size mammaries. It is a simple as that.

What they basically want the daughter to grow up to be is hinata's body with Naruto face and blue eyes. With her personality a combination of Naruto's energy, and hinata's devotion to her man.

 

So she can be the energetic big breasted girl that only loves them and they don't have to worry about her leaving them because have less personalty then a brown paper bag. That's the girl they always wanted. Or the wanted the shy one which is hinata. Or they can have both by having them do the mature mother teaching her energetic daughter how to please "a god of a man (that is a nH fan.)" So it is a Smörgåsbord for them.

 

Edit: Also that dress is less revealing then what Salad wears at the moment.

Hello Dear, good to hear from you too... It's always nice to drop by H&E, the atmosphere is always welcoming, though sometimes the memory of the dark cloud are still lingering.. Haha..

One Piece has always been the most popular compared to other in this generation. I'd say it's as popular as DBZ back then. You can easily see when you go to Japan, One Piece merchandise are almost everywhere. Even in 7-eleven and convenient shop.

Contrary to the belief, Naruto was never really that popular actually. Yes, it's popular, but not as per what people outside of Japan might thought. Even before the disastrous ending.

First of all, not everyone read manga or watch anime. This is the common misunderstanding that people outside of Japan assume. Try to compare the total population of Japan, drill down to youngsters age group, and compare it against the monthly average manga sales. You'll get a rough picture. Get the data from the Internet and roughly gauge it yourself.

Heck, even other series like Metantei Conan, which was not popular in Western countries, is still considered more popular than Naruto (you can check their movie release and compare it to Naruto's, they easily outsold by 2:1 ratio).

You can easily tell by volume sales. Popular manga like One Piece, Fullmetal Alchemist, etc, would have sold at least 2 million copies per volume (only in Japan). Don't be surprised that serialisation like Doraemon, Pokemon, Shin-chan or even Anpanman easily dwarfs Naruto or Bleach. Yet, these series are aimed for kids...

Why do you think Japan made Pokemon character (pikachu) as their football team mascot in the last world cup?

Having said that, judging from the current Boruto manga, I'm skeptical it'll get its own anime series. Well, by now SP staff must've been scratching their heads with their nH/SS direction...

Oh, let me guess, they might have reduced the airtime for these couples already by now.. Haha..

Ironically, the one who caused all these blunder easily washed his hands tidily. I congrats him for his newborn and honeymoon. Good for him...

But what people get after the ending is.. Wow..

What you get is a continuation done by other people. With the background story that's difficult to enrich (Naruto a busy father, Sakura a lonely housewife, Hinata nowhere to be seen, Boruto doesn't appear to be sympathetic, Sasuke... Well, Sasuke being Sasuke and still doesn't care about Sakura.. Overall ninja world that has already been explored previously, etc)

Even in the original manga, Kishi never draw hug or kiss between NH and SS. Hardly any positive development were drawn. In the most dire situation where Naruto is almost gone, Kishi chose to depict Sakura as his savior, by giving Cpr. And he chose to draw Hinata fell over a rock.

OMG... Now that I think about it, there's no worst insult for an author to his reader. It's like he's thinking "ok, let this creepy stalker tripped over a rock when the hero needs help the most, and let the hero's crush give him cpr instead. I don't care if my boss told me to go with nH/SS... "

... And I feel pity for nH and SS supporters to still idolise him. They don't realise he's been treating their pairings like crap...

Anyways, Japan is a very nice place to visit. If you're a first time, please go during Spring season. Somewhere in late March to mid April. Depending on your destination, there are a lot of promotion during this period. I'm more of a person looking for quiet place to spend my holidays, so I hardly go to Tokyo, unless if my kids wanted to go to Disney Land. You'll get a lot of tips from TripAdvisor, etc. Be sure you plan your itinerary in details.

@Nama. Huh thought Naruto was a bit more popular then that. They actually had Detective Conan on adult swim years ago. Years before anime vanished for a few year after toonami was cancelled. I think even before Naruto even aired. But it never really took off.

 

It still says something that Naruto was known for it's international fan base. As far as I know. Even Oda admitted kishi had him there. But after a ending targeted at pleasing what they thought was the international fanbase wanted. After the dust settled. They immediately went to desperately trying to please the Japanese fanbase.

 

Kishimmoto never intended nH  or SS. He constantly admits: he never understood why hinata was popular, he only paired her up with Naruto out of pity, and when he finally had an idea of what nH fan wanted he figures her fans just liked her because of her big breast. SS he spent most of the manga deconstructing that type of pairing using them. Constantly pointing out why they don't work well together. And when he had to do a side story about their child. He spent most of the time tearing into how awful a couple they are. He hasn't been able to completely wash his hands of Naruto because he is the editor of the Boruto manga. But he definitely no longer emotionally invested especially once he realized that the international fans clearly did not want nH and SS for a large part (the paying fans.)

Erm... That's my personal view, and I have no data to backup my opinion on the popularity. It's my observations while I lived there, when I came to visit and through few chit chat with my colleagues who happens to like manga. So, you can take it with a grain of salt :)

You go to Odaiba, there's a One Piece restaurant, a Gundam giant robot figure, etc. Last year or two years back (can't recall), you'd see exhibition on Attack on Titan, Evangelion, or Monster Hunter in Universal Studio. That's saying a lot about the series.

Don't get me wrong, Naruto is popular, it's just that it never really *that* popular in my opinion. For instance, if you go to universal studio in Japan, if I remember correctly there's a shounen jump specialised shop. You can find Naruto stuff there, along with Bleach and One Piece. But I've never heard of a large scale exhibition (in the scale of Evangelion or AoT in Universal Studio).

I recall I saw one news saying that Metantei Conan was one of the longest running series few years back.

Internationally it's clear that Naruto series was quite popular. But if you compare with Japanese market, I think international market is a fraction of it.

Ugh I'm getting attacked by NH and SS fans on thumbler for me daring to say those too weren't develop. Basically their argument is that Sakura did not have any romantic feelings towards Naruto and its her feelings for Sasuke that are more important blah blah. Typical of SS shippers only thinking about the woman feelings and not the mans and even stated the fact Kishimoto even said that it was all planned from the beginning. 😂 I'm not going to argue with this shiper I just stated that it looks like bring back Lissana in Fairy Tail is not going to effect the ending pairs or the ending like it did in Naruto. And I got automatically jumped on by NH/SS fan girls lol.

Just frendly reminder that discuss romance in Naruto fandom same with step into landmine, Naruto fandom already tired with years vicious pairing wars.  Give them rest since NS don't need to be canon to survive anyway.
