Anyways, good to see you all again.
I concurred with Bail's argument above. Though this is more of speculation. And frankly, everyone outside of the publisher can only speculate.
I visited Japan the other day during spring holidays to visit my colleagues. More or less it's about the same since the last time I went there 2 years back, anime-wise.
One Piece is everywhere, now I saw ads and posters on One Punch Man and Shingeki no Kyojin. Other than that, you'd need to go to bookstore to find your favorite series.
I don't see Naruto posters or ads as I went through and visited few places on Tokyo. There's one Naruto merchandise I saw when I went to Tokyo Sky tree. Together with other anime like Pokemon, Dragon Ball, and Hello Kitty and Doraemon. That's about it,...
When I visited my colleagues and had some chit chat with their kids (age 10-12), they seems to know One Piece very well. When I asked them 'what about Naruto? Do you know about it?' they gave me blank face.. Haha...
Seriously though, the series was not as big as people would like to think.
Anyways, that's just anecdotal, so, just take it with a grain of salt.

"I'm sorry I didn't believe. But I'd given up believing in so much, until I met you. From the first day I saw you, you were everything I ever wanted to believe in. You can do this, Diana. I know you can...But I have to go."
"What? What are you saying?"
"It's okay, this is what I came here to do. I can save today, but you... you can save the world."

Hi folks, how are you guys doing? Are we still discussing the endless debate about popularity? :)

So one of db argument that "Naruto is for kids and the new audience is full of kids" sound kind of false...if not completely.
db: "Kids are the new audience of Naruto and group where they are getting all their profits from."
Me: "What in the US?! It hasn't been on prime time for years and even on adult swim it at the very back of the line up."
db: "uh uh uh...I meant Japan. Yes! Japan is where all the kids are watching and loving Naruto."
Name: "I've been to Japan. I asked some of my Japanese colleagues' kids about Naruto. They just gave me a blank looks like they didn't even know what I was talking about."
Well thanks name for informing us once again Naruto is basically dead in the country it get the most profits from. As it is for most of the world. Except for brief flukes like the Ninja Storm game.
Anyways the reason the popularity argument came up again is because in a recent article on ANN. TV Tokyo said for the first fiscal quarter of 2016 Naruto was their biggest seller. People apparently are ignoring the first fiscal quarter of 2016 part and just thinking like it all time or something. But once you realize it is just the first fiscal quarter of 2016. You can look at what came out during the first fiscal quarter of 2016 to see what gave the Naruto franchise its spot. As TV Tokyo top seller in the first fiscal quarter of 2016. Once you do you realize the Ninja storm game came out in the first fiscal quarter of 2016. So because it sold well it is mostly the reason why Naruto did so well during the first fiscal quarter of 2016.

I know this is kinda off topic but why is SoKai better than Naruhina? Because Sora and Kairi always had a connection. Though Kairi isn't the strongest character, that doesn't stop her from trying. In fact she saved the world by saving Sora. Has Hinata done that? In fact Sakura saved the world by saving Naruto bunches of times.
Kairi has more of a point in the story and possibly lore of the series. She's also not useless and is there for Sora namely their hearts. Better portrayed in Kingdom Hearts than the bonds nonsense Naruto wouldn't shut up about hell Fairy Tail portrays the main message of bonds better than Naruto does. Also wasn't it Sora who brought Kairi to his island there fore saving her when Radient Garden fell. Hinata did jack kitten for naruto while Sakura did a lot more than her, One of the best Sora and Kairi moment was in the first game after you beat Riku for the second time and Sora unlocks his heart and her bringing him back after Sora turned into a heartless. I'd like to that happen in Naruto were Hinata tries that and it doesn't work but Sakura does it and it works. Hope Kingdom Hearts III has Kairi be a badass like Aqua is and she's playable. Good point Kairi tries her best to help Sora, When Hinata tries to help it makes the situation worse (Pain and Neji).

That is the entire fiscal year that they are showing. However to show you how much of a difference the games and Yokai Watch's popularity made for their profits, take this into account. Their last fiscal year, Naruto was both the top seller and earner and Yokai Watch was #4 on both lists. They made just under half the amount of money they made this fiscal year.
So from April 2014 to March 2015 they made 2.4 billion yen, with no games being released during that period. From April 2015 to March 2016 they made almost 4.9 billion yen, thanks to massive sales of both the Chinese app game and the console game.

Shounen exist to pleased fans..............
No sorry but no if that is how it works then people shouldn't be making storoes to please fans, sorry but thinking that is good is just stupid as hell anyone knows that pleasing the fans and giving them everything they want does not matter, its how you become a bad writer because you don't do what you want to do and only do what the fans want to do.
I mean its like me se saying I want something to happen in a show or book I have to happen and since I'm a fan they need to do it as they need to please me readers/watchers and only us and not what the writer wants. Sorry but I hate that kind of thinking I mean Kojima didn't just bow do and do what fans wanted neither have many other writers that unlike Kishi havea back bone in their spine.
A good writer does what they know is right for the story and the ending to Naruto was not right if they wanted really wanted NH then they could have done a lot more then they did.
Lke have Hinata on Naruto's team, kishi said well in his mind NH was planned from the start as do the more crazy NH fans, I do have more but many have said before how that is could have been done better. Anyway Kishi will go down to me as a bad writer with Naruto being a kitten headed woman user, I mean like someone said Naruto does not love Hinata he just using her, as he will never know what love is,

Don't forget The Last release. The DVD/Blu-Ray sold good numbers. So it's a lot more than just a filler episode. The really role is to have Naruto exist and continue to shoot merchandise.
What's interesting is that during the time that the Last was released, TV Tokyo later posted a drop in earnings at the box office for all animated movies, which included the Last. Somewhere in the range of over 51% down or over 600 million yen if I saw the numbers right for their movies. It was on animeanime.biz, which is a Japanese site.

Well he does know love if we are talking about Sakura and I still believe that Naruto still loves Sakura no matter what Kishi, the pathetic NH fans who won't listen. Yes good writer's can do thing like that and better. Really Shounen exist to please fan then how come Bleach is ending in 5 maybe 6 chapter when so many loose ends still unresolved. A good writer can take this ending and build story off it and possibly make Naruto and the rest of the characters aside form Hinata and put them back to how they were before 699 and the last killed them and with Hinata there is no fixing her, The writer could make it so Naruto and Sakura realize their mistake and together and Shina and Hanami will exist. Kojima would not bow down and do what fans want, he would do the story he wanted like with Metal Gear Solid and the unfinished parts of Phantom Pain.

Hiya! Good to see you!
That is interesting - you would think Naruto's staying power would outlast the ending. After all, it's been around for so long. But that's intersting to see that One Piece has firmly replaced Naruto as most popular. From everything I've heard about One Piece from other readers and even other mangakas, One Piece is really really good. So it's not surprising.
And yeah, I've wondered about Naruto's popularity - if it was still going as strong as it was at it's peak in the middle of the series, or if it was waning. From what you've said about the kids, it looks like Naruto's popularity was on the downslide, even though it was still going on.
Wonder if this is why they went with Boruto as a series over a Minato/Kushina or other Konoha throwback series - trying to tap into a new generation of kids?
Anyway, super interesting! Thanks for sharing your Naruto experience! Hope you had a nice visit to Japan - I'd love to go there someday!!

No I haven't read it.... Even though I know it's so beloved. I just can't get into it. The illustration style is a little too much for me.
