The MSX version is canon. The NES version is totally different.
Don't even talk about Snake's Revenge. hahahaha
Edit: Instead of HD-ing MGS1 or Twin Snakes... how about re-making Metal Gear 1 and 2?

Yup, it's the bastard child of the series.
A member of the development team for Snake's revenge begged Kojima to make a true Metal Gear sequel
Edit:HD Remasters are cheap to do and a lot less time consuming than doing a full blown remake. Publishers love it because they're easy cash ins.

This makes more sense.
Although I didn't care for MGS2 as much... but I've highly enjoyed playing through MGS1 over and over.

Not Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2. Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
@Illmatic - Yeah, I thought that was funny that Snake's Revenge was made before MG2!

Ohhh, misread that.
I never actually fully played MG1, I just read it's plot summary and I don't think I ever bothered with Metal Gear 2.

Same LOL. I have it on PS2 via MGS3: Subsistence... just never got around to playing it. DX

Are... they both on there? Because I have the MGS collection for PS2 and it came with MGS3: Subsistence... although apparently I don't have disk 2 for it.
I could probably just play both of them on my computer but... I don't really feel like doing that. xD

Yea unfortunately the essentials collection doesnt include it. If you ever want it, Ebay has some used copies in the $20-$30 range.

Nah, I'll just play them through my computer whenever I feel like it.
I bought this collection last year because I had never played MGS2 or MGS3.
And then the fact that MGS2, MGS3 and MGS: Peace Walker are being remade for PS3/360 later this year means I'm going to drop even more money on the same games again.
Ugh, not sure how I'll get the money for the games I want coming out later this year. Gears of War 3, Halo CE Anniversary and the MGS HD pack. Plus whatever else they decide to throw at me.
