Seriously, though, Kubo, why you like angsty ships so much?

Honestly, for all the hate Kubo gets, chapters like this are the reason I love this manga. Such powerful dialogue and amazing artwook. I wonder how many authors can basically pull a ship out of thin air and make me ship it uncontrollably half a dozen chapters later.

I thought it was already established that Masaki was a Quincy. Looking back, I guess it was just really heavily implied. Oh well, still a cool scene.

I find it pretty interesting that Kurosaki is actually Masaki's family name. It seems like the heroes of Naruto, Bleach, and Fullmetal Alchemist all have that in common (taking family names from the mother's side). Is this relatively common in Japan, or just a coincidence that all of these shounen series used the same idea? Still sorta funny either way.

About Isshin though, if Kurosaki isn't his last name, I wonder if he's related to any known characters in SS. Maybe the reason the Shiba Clan fell from power was because a member married a human. I believe it's been mentioned before that Ichigo bears a resemblance to Kaien, so I could see it. Not gonna call anything until it's proven though.

I started watching Bleach not too long ago. I've reached up to ep. 168, which is the beginning of the new 3rd squad captain arc. It's filler. : (

I'm just wondering if I can skip it? This counts for other future filler arcs as well. Without missing canon material, like what happened to the half-dead gang on Hueco Mundo. My friends have told me that fillers aren't really flllers in Bleach, but so far this arc has nothing to do with the main main plot, it even looks like a spin-off since Ichigo is suddenly home.

My friends have told me that fillers aren't really flllers in Bleach, but so far this arc has nothing to do with the main main plot, it even looks like a spin-off since Ichigo is suddenly home.

I've heard rumors that Kubo has some involvement with the anime fillers and some of the movies, but I haven't seen any actual evidence of it past the 4th movie (where he wrote a tie-in chapter), and the short Ashido Kano arc (which featured a character originally intended to appear in the manga). It's possible he works with the anime writers, but looking at the quality of some of the fillers, I really doubt he does much more than OC character designs.

As for that arc, it doesn't really tie into the manga, or anywhere in the story really, so you could skip ahead to episode 190 if you want. I remember trying to place it in the overall storyline, but with Ishida and Ichigo having their new powers, but Orihime not being kidnapped yet, it really doesn't make much sense where it's suppose to take place. The same goes for the Zanpakutou Unknown Tales (230-265).

Despite that, I did like the New Captain Arc a lot more than the Zanpakutou and Bount Arcs though, so I'd recommend giving it a go if you still need a Bleach fix after finishing the canon episodes. In particular, there's a really good episode around 1/3 way into the arc where Ichigo meets his mother in an illusion, and I thought it was really well done.

It sounds like you just finished one of my favorite fight scenes though (165-167). Hope you're enjoying it so far!

So it seems right now Ichigo is not necessarily a Shinigami but a Quincy. But there's gotta be more than that, since he could become a Shinigami.
