believe you missed the intention with that last comment. They weren't saying not to vote, they were saying that you shouldn't put all your faith in politicians. They make a lot of promises, and in the end the majority of those come back empty.
You know no better than I do what they meant. But, I believe you misunderstood my comment. I never thought they wouldn't vote, I said your choice will affect your life at least a little bit, even if you don't have faith in them. Besides, you don't need to vote for just a person, I think you can choose a party too? Congress is the biggest power in the states and they have rejected Obama's bills for 8 years, so if they change I too will be hopeful.
However, They did say 'only you can help you', if they only meant to say don't be obsessed with politicians those are poor words of choice. I'll rephrase my original point; Yes it is correct you must make something of yourself, but some statesmen will make the climb harder. College is nice, but it doesn't help much if school politics are disfunctional.
I understand empty promises and I am familiar with that myself, but that is another discussion. If someone promises me 100 cakes, I'd settle for 10 if the others have 5, or a taste I don't like.
