It's funny. Sometimes I think that Erina is the equivalent to Sakura b/c both are greatly despised among the fandom, but then Erina ranks rank 2 twice... But this is the Japan voting system.
I'd love to see what the western would have voted b/c I see tons of posts calling Erina a kitten...

Who the heck knows when they'll get closer XD It's been 120 chapters... Like I said, I doubt this arc will give Erina time to develop. Most likely it'll focus on the Elite Ten, specifically Kuga.
I think the Elite Ten are an interesting bunch by the way XD

Well, we have to know them because it's one of the crucial aspect of the series. As for her, well, so long people still interest, shown in popularity poll, she won't suffer Sakura syndrome. I feel like the writer is pulling a Arima wait on us. Granted, she's a main character but it's testing us. Luckily, I have patience. If none, well, trouble.Who the heck knows when they'll get closer XD It's been 120 chapters... Like I said, I doubt this arc will give Erina time to develop. Probably my favourite chapter for a while if solely for the fact this is the most interaction I have seen between Souma and Erina since the opening arc. Hopefully this will be the biginning of seeing more of her in the future. I've been a bit down on this manga since the end of the school competition, didn't think the winner made any sense.
I'm not at all surprised at the poll results, with the possible exception of number 5 Hisako, I expected her to be a bit lower and Alice to be in the top five but she only missed out by one vote so not a big deal I guess, the votes between fifth and tenth is not that great so I wouldn't be surprised if half of them are replaced with the rivals from the top ten.

Yeah that's why I like it too. Erina's interactions with Soma are pretty cute I think.

Well there is some history between her and Souma's father, I wonder if he had taught her the same thing he taught his son about foods tasting better when you have someone to cook for.' or something like that. (maybe what he'd told her is one day she'd find someone who will cook for her and she'll always want to eat the food they make. Afterall her biggest strength is her tongue.) Erina probably either believes that person is Souma's father, who does not see her as anything more than a kid, or that no one can satisfy her taste buds like he claims and is angry with Souma all the time because he's come the closest to giving her that feeling, and she doesn't want to accept it being a cook from a fast food restaurant.
I think Erina's role is to realise that, and accept Souma, I can't see her losing to anyone except Souma, almost like she's the second to last boss. (last boss is still his father.) I wouldn't surprised if the manga ends with Souma challenging his father with Erina as the judge....though not sure why I still expect him to lose, but I could be wrong, there are a few charactors that could cause issues, strangely I find that their dorm mate, the number seven seat is the one to look out for. I'm just hoping we see more of her in the upcoming chapters. Dispite her obviously being the lead female lead her screentime seems to be less compared to pretty much every other potential love rival.
That's actually an interesting theory about Erina. Maybe Jouichirou will remind Erina of that conversation again when they happen to meet again in the future.
Erina is the main antagonist, and she will be the one Soma will have to convince of his cooking. I'm not necessarily sure if there will ever be a Shokugeki b/w them, but we'll just have to wait and see. Hahaha, Satoshi Ishiki is one to look out for. Very cunning and inscrutable sometimes. I'm pretty sure he'll become first seat in the following year.
For some reason, I always imagined Soma to leave on a journey, too, like his father did... Imao, I have a feeling that he won't beat his father until the 500th time XD
I'm kind of unnerved in general that we've barely seen Erina doing anything cooking related. We've only seen creating doing two dishes, don't really know what her forte in cooking is, and have never seen her tasting food and actually enjoying it... Glad to see though that many times Erina is shown, a little bit of her facade is chipped off to reveal how unsatisfied she is with her life.

I swear, those two together are just hilarious. The fact that she can never pull of her mockery role is something I can never get enough of. Soma completely ignoring her in the beginning.
I honestly think that there won't be too much focus on Erina in this manga, especially since she's most likely stationed at the most luxurious place, so far away from where Soma and Kuga are.
I'm ok with Akira winning... I mean, I mean, this is shounen. MC usually never win the first time. Of course, I didn't have the same anticipation you guys had when you were following the competition weekly. I do think though the way it was written was stupid. Writing the flashback right before the winner was announced was so... anticlimatic. But hey: It's already been foreshadowed that Akira will have some trouble with his cooking later on
About the poll: I'm surprised Erina is second... She barely shows up. Also surprised to not see Ryo on there.

It's the second one. Soma and Erina had the same ranks in the first popularity poll.

My issue with Akira winning wasn't so much that I doubted his challenge, it's more than the build-up to that point was about how someone who doesn't adapt, and learn from their competitors will hit a wall and become stagnant. Which is exactly what Akira was doing, he was arrogant, who looked down at others, and relied solely on his nose.
He was made out to be the weakest of the three from what the manga was trying to teach you, then they had him win for the exact reasons why others had lost. Alice lost to Souma because she relied too much on her skills in cooking science, but Akira won because he he relied too much on his nose and his spices. It's like the manga was contradicting itsef with the win.

Soma had the problem of limiting himself before he went out and understood what his father was telling him more or less, so he wouldn't win there. The match was too close, so it was up to the face of the cook, the name that is identifiable. Akira put everything into that one, so it's like one step ahead others. Soma lost because he really didn't expand his cooking style that he was experiencing. You can say that he was missing that piece. I guess you can say his signature move alas Rasengan, Bankai, etc.

Yeah that was the reason given, though in previous battle the same reason was pointed out as a weakness, as I said with Alice, she lost because she relied heavily on her skill on the science of food. The only reason Akira one was to reiterate his father words about cooking for someone, Akira was cooking for the sensie and the mangaka had him win to show that to Souma, his actual dish itself didn't seem like it was worthy of the win, but more that because he had a better relationship with Sensie than the other guy had with Alice, he was given the nod.
The problem with Soma wasn't that he didn't expand his cooking it was he expanded it too much, he took on skills and techniques he learnt from all his previous battles, and integrated them into his cooking, however he had no unique taste that was his own, he took various different idea's but there was nothing unique to him. You could say he was a Jack of all trades but a master of none.
It just didn't mesh well, strongely if the other guy had won, and the same reason was given I would have OK with the win, I actually never expected Souma to win, I knew it would have been one of the other two, however the manner in with Akira won was where my issue was, it didn't make sense in the context of the previous chapters, and battles.
