I'm still wondering. What was in Naruto's mind when he was going "Hmmmm" to Minato's question"? I want to know what he was thinking during the two seconds before he answered that Sakura is his girlfriend.

Do you have what he said on japanese? A NH shipper told me that VIZ translation was only "Sort of"

So it was more like Naruto wasn't quite sure how to answer his zombie father in the middle of a war. It would've been a bit odd for him to actually answer that fully. Saying something like "No, Dad. I want to date her, but she loves someone else" or "No, Dad. She doesn't feel the same way about me" or "I'm actually interested in someone else" (meaning Hinata) or "I have no idea, Dad. No, you misunderstand me. What I mean is that SP is NS fans, and when they get to CPR, they will exaggerate the hell out of it, like maybe do it in a very detailed way such as zoom in the lips before locking in. This one has Sakura being happy, pretty much approve it without Naruto seeing it. So yes, CPR could be NS bias, but I don't care. I will be drowning in pool of tears.

I don't think he was thinking of a specific moment. It seemed more to me like he was actually thinking it over whether he and Sakura are a couple, whereas with the Konohamaru incident he wanted to seem cool so he said yes without even thinking, here he was legitimately thinking about their relationship.

I have mixed feelings about it.

I like the fact that they respected the dialogues from the manga, but really, I think the drawings are really crappy and lacking a lot of dynamism. This should be better animated. Some episodes are beautifully animated, and some are poorly animated. I know it, it's been a long time it's like that. But every time I'm watching something this horrible, I'm disappointed. It's really lacking movement, and emotions are atoned because dynamism is crappy.
But well, I'm happy to see it animated but I'm disappointed at the same time.

I haven't watched the episode yet, and probably never will. I do enjoy the animated GIF and images people have posted everywhere.

I find it amusing that one simple question and one simple reply can cause so many downstream impacts. Like many others, I'm also curious with Naruto's initial thought before he enthusiastically answered 'yes'.

What makes me even more curious is, why did Minato asked the question? How did he come to such conclusion? What drives him to ask Sakura?

I'd like to think that Kishi would like to reemphasize Naruto's feeling and get Minato's blessings --a secure way to NS. No matter how someone twisted it, they can't get away from the context of the situation. Telling the wrong thing over and over again won't make it become true.

Has someone noticed that ever since 631, NS moments are keep coming? ;)

I think small moments-the ramen feeding scene, Sakura talking about Naruto's feelings to the alliance, the hug, Sakura cheering him up, Sakura standing up for him, worrying for him, healing for him.

I guess these small moments added up to make him think that Sakura is more or less like his girlfriend than just a friend.

(Now that I wrote all the above moments, I find it an impossible task for Naruto to get over Sakura. Who could give up on a girl who does all the above for you )

Any ShikaIno was teammate stuff. Of course the ShikaTema stuff could be interpreted as friendshippy, but Shikamaru and Temari are together a lot and have pretty important scenes together. Like Temari saving Shikamaru, Shikamaru crying in front of her, Temari noting that Shikamaru could be Hokage... Not anything explicitly romantic but it's more than he's had with any other female. Even the seiyuus noticed the ShikaTema stuff. And Shikamaru's dream in the Infinite Tsukuyomi was pretty deliberate...

Shikamaru probably disliked Sasuke because he was arrogant as hell and looked down on others.

 

I agree completely.  There was a very specific panel in the manga that showed Temari's reaction to something with Shikamaru in the latter part of the war -- I wish I could remember which chapter -- but the only reason for her panel was to connect her to Shikamaru.

 

And really, the Tsukuyomi dreams of both Shikamaru and Ino were romance-related, and neither figured in the dream of the other.  I personally cannot see a compelling case for Shika/Ino, only team bond.

Well, just because Kishimoto didn't want to write an ongoing romance for Shikamaru within the manga doesn't mean he won't show him with someone in an epilogue or final summary.

I got the impression that Naruto's hesitation reflected the confused state in which their relationship was left after her confession.  She confessed, he rebuffed her confession, she said that if he didn't like her to just say so but he didn't, and then she stomped away angry.  Then Sai filled Naruto in with more details.  

 

Naruto and Sakura have not talked about their relationship status since.  But the last word Naruto had was Sakura saying she loved him and was done with Sasuke, and as we know Naruto loves Sakura and totally wants her. 

 

Thinking through all that caused the hesitation.  That's what I think, anyway.

I think that was a little before the alliance's tug of war with Obito. Shikamaru told the alliance that every one has a significant role to play, no matter how small it is. Temari had an inner dialogue that a person who can change the hearts of all the people would be a good Hokage. I think it's chapter 641.

There was another one where Temari was indirectly praising Shikamaru when she was praising Shikaku in the war arc. Her inner dialogue was something like "Just what I would expect of Shikamaru's father". Too bad, I can't remember the chapter.

How bizarre (not really), but when all considered, anime has Naruto loves Sakura till the day he dies, Sakura continues to wink the audience that she loves him, no longer loves Sasuke as in pointing out without being ambiguous, and Hinata just being Hinata. If you ask me, anime made it too easy.
