Right now the manga is coming down to just who you believe and how much. Is the King telling the truth? Or is he full of it and just using Historia for his own ends? It's really interesting honestly in the regard. For those who are only interested in titan killing though I'm sure they are a bit bored. I'm always up for an anti-government/government conspiracy story though. I also like that it's being hinted at that the peoples "protectors" (the state) is even worse then the titans who are literally trying to consume them for no biological reason.

 

Of course it's already mostly shown that the titans are a kind of weapon being used by an unknown enemy as well, against the people behind the walls. It's an interesting set up at the moment.

The main thing that made me grow bored with it wasn't a lack of action (I'm actually not someone who likes just straight action) but that I found a lot of the characters lacking in substance. Mikasa was cool in the beginning. She's badass -- but aside from her Eren obsession, there's really not much to her character at all that I can find. Eren is more talk than action and I don't really like him to be honest.  Levi is just an ass, I can't find anything likable or even interesting in him. I liked Annie, but she hasn't appeared in a long time from when I last read, and I like Armin and Historia well enough.

 

I do like government conspiracy plots myself though, so based on what you've described, I may give it another try. Thanks.

Well if you like conspiracy stories, that's where we are right now in regards to Attack on Titan. It's fun to read the fan theories on it all right now, a lot of creative folks giving their best efforts.

 

Right now I'd say it's more plot driven then character, but that's really because we are dealing with things inside the walls right now, not what's going on outside the wall. We are getting a lot of back story, that some people don't trust, because right now everything is based on "memories" and how true events are.

 

Honestly I wouldn't be to surprised if Roger Smith showed up and started talking about living in the city of amnesia. Ok I'm joking, but it does kind of have that feeling right now at times. Memories and "the truth" are becoming a big part of the plot. What is real? We don't know yet.

I haven't read this manga in several months, and I honestly think I forgot a lot of it. I really just bored with it and it felt like it lost a lot of it's momentum that it had at the beginning. I've been debating with myself about giving it another try and I guess I'm wondering if anyone might be able to tell me if it might be worth my time to try picking it up again or not?

Yeah, its worth it. It's been getting pretty hardcore recently. The problem is the monthly release schedule, I feel like that dilutes the effect of having great chapters, especially because I tend to forget what happens from one chapter to the next due to the time in between lol

My Review on Chapter 64

Yeah, it gets too difficult to keep up with too many manga at once, especially with other things going on. I got all invested in Chrno Crusade and Noragami and pretty much dropped the others I was reading at the time, except Pandora Hearts.

This is a very sad chapter T_T Thanks to lampurple for the first spoiler alert.

Read more below is my thoughts after reading the Japanese chapter review.

The chapter is titled “Dream and Curse”

The chapter opens with Young Kenny asking his grandpa about the reason the Ackermans are prosecuted. The grandpa was reluctant at first, but then revealed that the Ackermans were King’s guard but became a threat because their memories cannot be wiped. The Head of the Ackerman offered himself to be executed in exchange for the clan’s survival. The other tribe that is not affected by the memory wipe is the Asians. To protect their future generations, the first generation surviving Ackermans (and Asians) refuse to pass down their memory of the humanity before inside the Wall.

When reading the next part, I’m almost gonna cry at this: Kenny’s sister who works at a brothel (the word used here is a prostitute, when Kenny told his grandpa that he finally found his sister) was pregnant with a client’s child and she refused to abort the child. Most likely that child is Levi, making Levi an Ackerman from his mum’s side, and Kenny is his uncle T_T Hence, this implies that Levi doesn’t know he is an Ackerman, and doesn’t know how he is connected to Kenny. Then the family (the sister and child?) moved near Shiganshina, but they are still poor.

To make this spoilers short, I’m going to list a few important points:

• Kenny reveals Rod’s deceptive face to Historia (YES!!!). Rod revealed he cannot turn into titan for some reason.
• Kenny freed Eren’s mouth gag device and wounded Eren’s forehead.
• Eren gave up his dream of travelling to the outside world, because he thinks his father and him had stolen what wasn’t rightfully theirs, and could not restore peace  to this world. He asked Historia to eat hi mand exterminate the titans. Historia answered that she will, and she thanked Eren for liking her as a normal clueless human (referring to the conversation they had when they’re waiting in a room while Jean and Armin were kidnapped by the Flegel company in their place).
• The chapter ends with Levi and the 104th squad arrived right at the moment someone turned into a titan.

Afterthought: I hope Eren doesn’t forget Grisha’s plea for him to “revenge for your mother” last words. I am truly surprised that he gave up everything and prepared to get eaten. Did Eren really find his father’s action despicable? Argh all the frustration. And mostly Eren would be saved by Levi and Mikasa.
