Yeah, I know, every time I go there on summer vacation I don't want to go back to South AR. (even though I live out in the country it's still just the atmosphere *humidity/high heat/thunderstorms popping out of nowhere*, some of the people, and so on. Being close to my family is really one of the few good things I like were I live, but I guess I can't complain as long as I have a roof to live under.

A (fake) fire alarm forced 27,000 Otaku into the streets...
The other couple rooming with us got engaged at the Bleach photo shoot, dressed as Shunsi and Nanao. We got it on video, it was awesome.
Attendance this year fell just short of 30,000. Even in bad economic times, otakon still grows like crazy every year.
Good times....

The only positive thing about the fire alarm was that it gave me a valid excuse to leave the fanfiction workshop that was starting to really drag. I was pretty excited about that one too
Had a blast at the con. Too bad I got sick and had a minor sprain to my ankle.

-Historical Anime panel was a blast. I learned so much in such a short period of time. Went well beyond the basics most otaku already knew.
-The Hilton was not affected by the evacuation, so I got to chill in the main video room for some mid-day Slayers Revolution, followed by Black Lagoon and High School of the Dead. I really, really liked Black Lagoon.
-The Masquerade was easily the best I've seen in 3 years. The Hetalia skits were very high quality, as well as funny.
-Dubs that time forgot was very funny, like every other year.
-Obscure Video game anime was pretty cool .I had no idea Samurai Showdown was made into a (very bad) anime.
cons:
-missed the AMV finals. Twice. First due to poor scheduling in a room not nearly big enough, the second due to the fire alarm.
-The 10 funniest AMVs screening was awful. Very, very poorly researched list. Half of them weren't even funny at all.
-Saturday Night fanparodies re-mastered some classics to show, but unfortunately they obviously did not re-master the audio, which was so jumbled it may have been in Chinese.

Why can't it be in New York???

When you go to war, both sides lose totally- Yoko Ono
Remember, our hearts are one. Even when we are at war with each other, our hearts are always beating in unison- Yoko Ono 2009

Because New York can't have anime cons. They've tried several times and they always fail.
Your best bet is AnimeBoston, which is highly successful.

A hand holds up the sky while shamefully I make my plea
The alter's callin' but my legs won't seem to stand
Guess I'm a coward scared to face the man I am
