That's not romance at all. You can't have a relationship based on one partner being interested and the other partner not. There was never anything from Sasuke showing that he was interested. Even after she once again said she loved him and cried in front of his face, he flat out rejected her without any crack in his defense. If he cared, the pain in her voice and expression would have cracked him. There was no connection in 693, and therefore she couldn't reach him.
 
The same applies for Naruto and Hinata. Even with 615 he never showed romantic interest in her. 631 showed he still had feelings for Sakura. Even after his fight with Sasuke it's clear that he hadn't moved on. They had to devote an entire movie to genjutsuing (Read Brainwashing) him into caring about her. That's not love, or romance. It's its twisted alter ego, Obsession. Love is not obsession, it is mature. It's finding the balance between you and the other person, not recklessly charging into something because of a decades long harbored fantasy. And honestly this is why most relationships these days fail and why there are so many NH/SS fans. It's escapism. In many ways we've lost our maturity and more important our selflessness. We want things now, like getting kissed for saving the girl even though we haven't even taken the time to know the other person. We want specifics when it comes to our relationships before we even test the waters. We want stories to end in certain ways or certain things to happen and if they don't then they are obviously bad. And not all people are like this of course but right now they are in the minority.
 
Love takes sacrifice. Sasuke could have cared less about anything and was not willing to sacrifice his own revenge and goals. Hinata wasn't willing to sacrifice Naruto even if he didn't care for her. Sakura wasn't willing to sacrifice her obsession and feelings for Sasuke even though he rejected her time and time again.
 
Only Naruto was willing to put his love interest's feelings before his own. Only he was willing to take chances and get to know the one he cared about. Only he was willing to be patient and let time and bonding lead the way. And the sacrifice counts, because it shows you are committed to something greater than just yourself. And 9 times out of 10 it strengthens the relationship.

OK now I get what wrong. rocci seems to not understand their are various types and forms of love. So he sees Sakura and Hinata crushes/obsessions/sexual attraction as love in the broadest term and all love are the same and equal.

They say believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see. Well I believe nothing of what Kishimoto says and I believe half of what I see in the manga and his own actions. I think he’s telling the truth when he says he based Kushina and Sakura on his own wife. I think he’s kittening when he calls them red herrings because doing so invalidates NS and makes it look like NH was always meant to be, when in fact he’s basically said many times and the manga itself proves that that’s not the case. And NH is so weak in its development that it needs everything else to die around it for it to stand a chance of being taken seriously. Naruto’s affection for Sakura? Invalidated by having Sakura call his affection a result of his rivalry. Sakura’s feelings for Naruto? Invalidated by the idea that Sakura moving on from Sasuke would make her a terrible woman. MinaKushi’s parallel to NaruSaku? Invalidated by calling it a red herring. They’re all cop out excuses done to get us to believe Kishimoto and SP’s kitten."

I understand there are various type of love.
I don't think that all love are the same and equal, but I don't think just because their love is negative doesn't make it not a romantic love.

Trying to said that their love is not love is nothing more different than what anti NS said about NS as sibling love.

This is an outstanding post. Love, lust, attraction, affection, etc. all exist on a spectrum of emotions. I think there's canon evidence (and I'm only talking up through 700 to clarify) that Sakura is attracted to/lusts after Sasuke. And I think there's evidence that Hinata has affection for Naruto (along with some odd stalking tendencies). But in both cases, the women look to the men for validation. If you look at RL relationships of those around you, how often do relationships built on such shoddy foundations actually work?

 

I think Naruto feels affection for Hinata. He certainly draws strength from her several times throughout the manga. But I don't see that as love in the same way as we see the slow build between Naruto and Sakura. In the case of NS, the relationship isn't built on lust, or validation (though Naruto's feelings are certainly retconned as such). But they're built on a foundation of mutual respect and support.

 

I don't know what changed with Kishi, but the amount of time he put into developing NS relative to the two actual canon pairings is just really perplexing.

I hate to admit it, but I kinda want the Shikamaru book, purely for the lovely Sai & Ino rescue scene. I actually really like this pairing and thought they were written fine in this novel. But on the other hand, I don't want to support Kishimoto in any way, so...

As much as I would love to say don't buy it, don't support them, they don't deserve it. I have to agree with @Nar123.

Some said somewhere on this site they compared to her performance and emoting she normally does for Sakura, her performance in the last movie was incredibly lifeless.
