So what does a typical pizza from Italy look like? My friend who goes to Italy each year told me that the crust of an Italian pizza is extremely big.

Absolutely and strictly "alla margherita" (tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil). Then there are other kind of pizza of course, but in italy the "margherita" is the most popular pizza.

Tuna! XD Never had tuna on my pizza! But that's certainly better than pineapple.  :fu:  (just checked on an online menu, and, yep, they have tuna pizza here)

Rikudo linked you the 'traditional Neapolitan type' of pizza with thick crust,  here in Rome we usually eat a thinner crust type of pizza (I like it more than neapolitan pizza, but that's a matter of personal taste)

But yeah, margherita is the most popular here, I always order one with normal mozzarella (and not bufala, but again, that's personal taste). Apart from that I looove 'Diavola' but when I was a kiddo I used to order one with tomatoes, mozzarella and sausages.

 

Our archetype is pretty much, 'keep it simple'.
