Just look at her face. Poor girl will be damaged goods when she wakes up. She'll probably feel like she failed yet again in stopping Sasuke just like last time since this chapter is after all a parallel of 181. Kishi did Sakura dirty in this chapter and no potential development that she'll receive is even worth the degrading of her character. It's just plain ridiculous at what this character is going through ever since the fight with Kaguya.
 

Unfortunately she'll probably wake up after the fight. Aka when Sasuke is converted by Naruto. And who knows how she'll react to him then.

Wow, I was not expecting a lot that was in that chapter.  You would believe Kishimoto has a grudge against Sakura to keep putting her through this kind of thing.  However, we know he defended her when English fans gave her a hard time for the confession at an event.  Then, you ask yourself why is he making her suffer like this.  As a ninja, her specialty lies in healing.  However, before she decided to become a medic out of a desire to be helpful, she wanted to stand with the boys essentially.  However, even at this point, she hasn't reached that goal or any of her goals.  She's what we would call a failure hero, or heroine in this case, because she rarely succeeded in anything that was important.  Things she did accomplish was with help from other people.  Saving Naruto from death and rescuing Sasuke both required Obito's help.  Other than that, she's never succeeded in anything else major.   She just does little things, and while Yamato said that it's not what you do, but the feelings you put into them that count, she has yet to be satisfied with just that.

 

So again, why does Kishimoto keep putting her through this pain if there's no grudge involved?   All I know for sure is that this can't be it for her.  There's no point to her character if she never succeeds at anything that she can feel very proud of.  She may not participate in the long-awaited Naruto vs. Sasuke, but that doesn't mean she won't play a major role while the conflict is going on.  Kishimoto even said that he would focus on Sakura next after Kakashi.  Well, Kakashi's character arc is done now.  How will she play a major role at this stage?  Who knows, but really, she can't just be left out like this.  It would be such a disappointment and a further disservice to her character if she does nothing.  I hope it is something very big to compensate for all the crap she's been put through.  Honestly, I care about her character more than the Naruto vs. Sasuke fight, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Have you notice the three females who's love is usually front and center have been made into a mockery in this war arc? Karin having no self-respect, Hinata tripping over a rock and last but not least Sakura imploding in this chapter. These girls need serious help, and by serious help I mean better writing.

At this point in time Pepsi, nothing will ever makes sense and Kishimoto is the one to blame for it. The best you can hope for is either NS becomes canon and we win even if it is hallowed victory or we lose and the manga sends a wrong message that being the good guy will always end you up in last place.

There is still a chance for things to be okay, but it is a tightrope at the moment. Kishimoto has to play every step now very carefully.

Let me clarify since I don't believe Sasuke has any romantic interest in her, her rejecting him doesn't make sense in that regard..

 

I should say she'll finally reject the notion of SS possibility with redeemeed Sasuke

NaruSaku is supposed to be his end pairing yet for some reason he keeps Sakura's feelings for Sasuke stubbornly in place well past the realism level. It's more bewildering because I know NS will be canon so what exactly is he doing?

I can only imagine everything is being set up and perhaps sacrificed for a complete Naruto "victory" I.E the author feels it would be more meaningful for Sakura to fall out of love with redeemed Sasuke.

The way I saw the whole Sakura "Confession" part was actually her trying to stop Sasuke before he TURNS EVEN MORE AND MORE EVIL and KILL the 5 KAGES and especially NARUTO.

To me, it would be out of her character just to ignore that Naruto is going to die and confess her love so she can be with Sasuke; now thats pathetic.

Look at her expression before she starts crying and stuff, it was an angry (i guess..) expression. Sakura is a KIND girl, she is not going to IGNORE the fact that Sasuke wants to KILL Naruto and the 5 Kages and does his Revolution.

It was still Kishi's writing that made her look like (to many of you) pathetic. I wouldn't blame him though, I'm sure he'll do something about this... This is just purely my opinion.

I think there's a very good chance you're right.  In a post I made (way back on page ~20) I mentioned that it could very well be that the manga will end with Naruto and Sakura's relationship finally changing directions in his favor.  Like, maybe at the end he asks her on a real date and she accepts.  Or we get the bench scene revisited, and it sets the stage for what's ahead.

 

A lot of the gloom and doom in this thread is due to people obsessing over their expectations for a specific outcome -- or a specific path to that outcome to be taken -- and it's going to happen in a way we didn't expect or haven't obsessed over for five years.  Doesn't mean it isn't going to happen, it means it's not happening the way we wanted or imagined.

 

And that's what your post points out.  That maybe Kishimoto wants to break Sakura down.  Maybe that's the only way he felt he could show her loyalty and devotion in love, but have it broken and reset for someone who deserves it.

 

That doesn't make me any happier with the execution of this chapter, but that's because I readily admit I had expectations that Sakura's feelings would be resolved in a different way.  A better way -- at least according to me.  SIgh.  But I'm not writing the story.

THIS. If Sakura ended up choosing Naruto over a bad Sasuke it would look like he was second place. However if she somehow SHOWS that Naruto is the one who truly makes her happy by choosing to pursue a relationship with him over a good Sasuke then it will be 100% genuine. Of course, none of this is possible until Sakura actually comes to realize the simple fact that Sasuke will NEVER make her happy.

 

I don't think Kishi finally made Sasuke blurt out the question that's been on the minds of readers for almost 15 years for nothing - WHY does Sakura "love" Sasuke so much after everything he has done. We have never been clued in to at least ONE stinkin legitimate reason for her utterly ridiculous/stubborn/insane longlasting love up to this point. Maybe I'm wrong but I have a feeling that by the end of this fight we will FINALLY learn exactly why Sakura has felt so strongly about Sasuke for all this time. My best guess is that it will be revealed that her feelings were simply misplaced all this time (ex. flashback to forehead scene).

 

I don't know what's gonna happen but I do know that the first step in redeeming Sakura's character is to first learn WHY she loves a douchebag like Sasuke this much, then we can go from there.
