you know, i get the feeling im acting like i have a "if we can't get a happy ending then no one can!" attitude. but really thats not true.
 
 
i wanted to be happy for naruto but the more i look at the reasons behind everything such as naruto's character and how he ended up in chap 700, i can't feel anything but disgust. the last was supposed to convince me otherwise yes? well it did a pretty bad job at that since all it manage to do was make me despise naruto, sakura and hinata not as pieces of a couple, but as individuals.
 
I mean hinata got everything she wanted with little to no hard work, but with pure luck and deus ex machina. why should i be happy for someone who just gets everything on a silver platter?
 
for naruto, why should i root for someone who lies, manipulates and forgets about his friends? not to mention gives up as soon as his just now girfriend dumps him? what a loser. at this point it was no longer about him becoming a good hokage, it was about getting the girl.
 
kakashi, you know what, he is overrated as all heck. idk what happened to him after the land of waves arc that had him lose his cool factor. but he lost every fight he's been in and i can tell you right now that he was made a hokage simply to be a bench warmer. one of the most useless hokages out there next to tsunade (who is a great MEDIC no doubt, but as a hokage, what has she done really?)

Timeout, I agree that Kakashi turned out to be scum, and now that I think about it, has always been scum, but Tsunade was one of if not the best Hokage.

I disagree, I think Tsunade was one of the best hokages the village had. Not in strength, but for abilities as an administrator, diplomat, and of course as a medical ninja.

 

Tsunade was the one that had to lead the effort of repairing the village not once, but twice. Once by Orochimaru and then again after the Pain invasion. The amount of work that would take would be tremendous, and too much for me to list, as it would require a lot of planning and organizing to fix that much devastation in such a short time.

 

Also, she was important for negoitating with the other four great nations. Without her things would have never gotten off the ground and the peace between the villages that we see in Gaiden and 700 would have never happened. Just imagine how the world would be if Danzo was the Hokage.

 

Don't forget she had to deal with the Akatsuki as that required a lot of intelligence gathering and among other things to combat the group of S ranked criminals. Then she had to prepare village for war aganist Obito and Madara. I know Naruto and Sasuke kind of did most of the work in the war, but the point still stands that she managed to organize the village for war even after it was just recently destroyed completely.

 

Not to mention, Naruto should be forever thankful towards her as she should have branded Sasuke a missing-nin and a traitor to the village and had the ANBU hunt him down and kill him before he could cause any damage to the shinobi world. So, it was really was BS that Naruto calls her a useless gambling drunk in one of the novels as Naruto owes her for letting him go after Sasuke for his own selfish reasons.

 

So yeah, Tsunade may not have been the strongest Hokage but I think she was one of the best. Certainly better than Tobirama or Kakashi and of course Naruto. I never understood why people liked to paint her in a bad light, but none of their arguments have ever convinced me she's a bad Hokage. It's just a bunch of lies in my book.

Tsunade did a pretty good job rebuilding the leaf from the sound + sand invasion, estabilishing an alliance with the sand that ended up saving some of  the Sasuke's rescue squad from the sound four and also managed to hold off and counter attack Danzo's machinations

And yet Naruto still calls her a "drunk old bum who is not fit for the hokage position anymore" during the Kakashi gaiden

 

IMO Naruto is one of the worst hokage's ever, Kakashi coming second close 

 

Kakashi's reign hokage was basically Shikamaru's. If we go by Shikamaru gaiden it's basically confirmed that Shikamaru did most of the work/ diplomacy for the alliance continued existence and Kakashi only appeared to actively work when there was a crisis of some sort

 

Naruto got everything basically handed to him, when he became hokage there was already peace, his only work is to stay in a office doing god knows what in a computer, drinking alcohol and eating junk food, all the while slowly rusting his fighting abilities

Otherwise I always thought it would be a good opportunity to show off Naruto's leadership skills (which we never got to see) if he was the leader of one faction in such civil war

Well, it start with naru vs sasu after pein arc. Naruto won and sasuke back.
Tsunade coma, danzou become temporary hokage and do something that make civil war happen, sasuke know the truth about uchiha massacre, tobi ask sasuke join his side in order to kill danzou.
Tsunade awake when civil war between naruto faction vs danzou faction.
Tsunade vs danzou, tsunade died, sasuke kill helpless danzou and the advisor avenging his clan and join akatsuki to start wwn.
Kakashi become hokage and prepare for war.

There is really no way of taking Sasuke out without changing the main core of the story, Kishimoto put him in a place of big importance and wasn't able to keep the writing of his character stable

 

I said though, that a civil war arc would be kinda good because we would see Naruto's leadership skills for the first time

Just look, in the war he didn't lead that much, he was just the one who motivated and distributed chakra to the others

Then in the last he was also being a follower to Shikamaru...

 

So many opportunities lost

Well, it could still happen. But how to make it happen, that what kishi should answer.
I think delaying their fight for 400+ chapters is not a good move.
Kishi should make them fight 3 times in this manga. In vote, after pein arc, and in the end of manga.

The problem about putting their fight as the endinfg of the manga essentially means Sasuke would be acting as the final antagonist which wouldn't be too good if Kishi wanted to redeem him properly.

He just need to not make him do villainous thing like he did in kage meeting arc.
Antagonist rival is not the first time happen in shonen manga history.
After all, I don't think sasuke is a final villain, but more final antagonist like you said.
