I just remember reading about it, and Kondou, Hijikata and Okita all got names pretty close to the real ones.

It's hard to say on that for now, mainly because they announced OVA on volumes that they already set up that will be out by November. So in a way, it gives you an idea that it will last until next year. Anime went away for what? 2-3 years before? I mean they can just go back to normal days episodes, though not sure how. Either way, we'll see.If it is true that the manga will end this year, I'll expect the anime to come back next year.

That's not true, Sorachi told that he will start last arc, that doesn't mean that it surely will end in this year.
