So who else thought the first page was a dig at Naruto? The son almost always surpasses the father, very similar to Naruto's biggest claim of the furture gen surpassing the past gen, yet went on to prove that the past gen were much more powerful, even Naruto and Sasuke, taking out the Bijuu or Sage's power would get destroyed by Madara and Hashirama.

I love, love love the re-introduction of Levy in this chapter.  We were speculating that she might be on the Council (if Gajeel wasn't), and she is!  She's also distinctly uncomfortable at how easily Gajeel dismisses Gray's past camaraderie in light of his current evil behavior.

 

And Lucy slapping Gray spoke for all of us.

Does anyone else read Yamada-kun and the seven witches? It's from a former assistant of Mashima, and you can tell from the art style how much she was influenced by his work, Mashima has also done a couple of crossovers withs her, which I thought was great how he still supports his former students dispite them already being successful in their own right.

 

Back ot the Manga, I liked Gajeels resolve in this, the safety of many always takes priority over personal feelings. I'm still not sold on Gray turning evil, it could be his ploy to destroy the creations of Zeref, or something similar.

Yoshikawa (Yamada's author) had been on Mashima's team for a long time before getting serialized. And yes, that means she's been on his team since Rave. And you have to wonder... Considering how he wrote HaruxElie, (and MusicaXReina) along with NaLu and the rest of the ships in FT, if Yoshikawa was a major influence in the shipping aspect of the stories.

Yoshikawa specializes in Romcoms, so you wonder who influenced whom when it comes to writing romance.

Gray isn't really evil, just put his priority more than anything. Like he's not out there to kill Natsu or anyone. Just that he invaded the guild that are morally evil itself. So it hasn't hit that level of "forget Gray!" or anything. Sasuke did too many things too far yet he's scout free from all problems. kitten.

Well considering on how open ended Yoshikawa's last work ended (Yankee-kun to Megame-chan), and her romantic preferences, I'm not so sure. Mashima doesn't have love triangles, he makes his pairings obvious, where with Yoshikawa's work the MC seem to have more than one female interested in him, and we can never be sure if the MC will end up with the girl he likes at the end.

 

Her preference from the two manga's suggests she likes complete opposites, very Shoujo like, in the sense it's usually a percieved dumb bad boy and a smart book nerd, (Though in Yankee-kun it turns out to be the other way round.). Also it's the guy who realises their feelings first and pursue the girl the like, in Mashima's work the Male charactors feelings are usually not made as clear.

 

The humour on the other hand I can see her influencing, I can't remember there being much comedic fighting between the cast in Rave, but in FT they all seem to be at it that's something that has been in both Yoshikawa's work.

I prefer obvious pairings, because the characters will be safe from pathetic attempt at drama as well as keep the story flow.
