I've my psx ready and warm. What RPG vidja gaems do you recommend? |D
I'm interested in what H&E has to offer
oh and so far:
[x] Grandia
[ ] Legend of Dragoon
Well... I can suggest a few like the FF Series though you probably already know it... some others that I can suggest are:
Star Ocean: The second Story although technically its more like semi-RPG rather than RPG coz depending on the gameplay you can move the characters freely during battle (better if you're controlling melee character coz it makes you easier to evade enemy attacks) or making them stay in 1 spot and blasting away (Better for magic-based ones for
obvious reason that I won't bother to explain)
Legend of Legaia great story, unique gameplay and decent graphic for a PSOne/PSX. The only thing that is remotely annoying is that you have to try to find the moves/combos by trial and error (at least for the normal combos) unless you have a game guide next to you as you play and that some of the skill books for the hyper combos are kinda hard to find although most of them are quite worth it.
Tales Series while the quality of Tales of Destiny is quite.... questionable by today's standard, the game itself is quite decent with real time fighting and all that stuff and I quite like the story too. Same goes for Tales of Eternia.

oh and another question, has anyone here played the Grandia series? I've heard the next two aren't really up to par with the first one, so I'd totes appreciate it if someone could lemme know if GII & III are worth the play
oh fudge also XD is FFIX worth a shot? I hear it's underrated.. and then sometimes I hear it's surpasses alot of games, even FFVII. Hmmmmm!
I played Grandia II and finds its quite good, granted I never play the first one so I can't really compare them. but if you want me to compare it with Grandia III, then I will have to say that III is quite a disappointment as the way I see it, III is basically II with just different name and story, the characters are pretty much have the same attitude, fighting style, etc. I still find III much more enjoyable than Xtreme though...
hmm... seeing that you gonna compare FFIX too FFVII, I might as well compare it along with FFVIII. The way I see it, if you're looking for story-wise, FFIX has the best story-line between the three imo as the story is much more complicated than it seems at first glance while the story for FFVII and VIII are pretty much straightforward and dare I say, pretty boring as you can pretty much guess the ending after playing about 1/2 way. Gameplay-wise, all 3 are pretty much the same with a few difference like FFVII got the Materia System, FFVIII got the GF System and FFIX has the Equip-Skill Mastery-System. But if you're looking for battle-wise I say you'd better be prepared for dissapointment for FFIX, the reason? this is why: There's no multiple damage skills, like... Cloud has Omnislash, Squall has Lionheart, Zidane Nonewhatsoever which makes it totally hell to kill the last boss coz the most damage you can do with 1 skill is 9999 not 9999 times X (x is a variable number, don't ask).

On a similar PS3 (and 360) note, any fighter fans familiar with BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger?
Made by the Guilty Gear guys, according to my buddy back home who's been talking the game up. Looks like a lot of fun
no wonder the characters look pretty damn similar with Guilty Gear... well... if the game holds the same quality to guilty gear then I guess we can look forward to it in the future it does look pretty damn fun, gotta love the air combos

Yeah, looks like my PS2 classic will stay on my tv stand as well. Unless they're integrating that into a future firmware upgrade for backwards compatibility, I'm keeping my PS2.
Same here... though I prob won't ever throw away my PS2 Slim even if theres a backward compatibility in the future, it has serve me way too long for me to just throw it away ^^
