He will have followers. Just matter of how big are they. He will be fine, but he may end up suffering the first work better syndrome where people will only know him for his first work.I don't think the work will be as big as naruto, in the sense that it will sell more than 800 k like naruto.
But his work will have guarantee audience/reader that will buy whatever product he make.
I think he will be fine.

Masashi kishimoto will be going to comic con in new york city

Based on how well the Boruto movie did and the people who went to his panel, I`d say he has a guaranteed audience for his sci fi manga
You have to considere that majority of his fans are at least 70% otaku that only care about their fan service and pairings. If it was not for SP's decision to cater to the sasunaru fans with the Bolt film, the film would have never made it to 10 million. And it's not garantee these otaku will ever follow Kishi after Naruto because it's still fresh within their minds that Kishi is a bad writer (his contradicting interviews) and especially SasuNaru fans remember they were trolled along side NS fans during TL premier so it's more or less.
We will not know how the Bolt film will do on US soil until later this month. the film is not a success just as TL, than SJ and SP just have wasted money on this campaign to milk off the west and sacrificed their main market for nothing.

An out of control man needs a strong woman to control him.
And even a violent woman will become soft and tender to the man she love.

The thing is that most of them care only about Naruto for it insert pairing, and with Kishi constantly going on about he so bad at romance it wouldn't surprise me if he convinces himself that he is bad at romance and decides not to include it in the sci-fi manga at first. Which will cause most of the otakus to leave since what they really want is Hinata 2.0. So they can fantasize about having sex with her.
Also I think the bolt movie was an attempt to win back their main market in Japan. So they already kind of abandon the west the bolt movie is just coming out to double check.

A SasuKarin shipper asked him today why Karin didn't get with Sasuke, and he told her, "In Japan, it is my choice". I guess he was getting asked that question a lot.
Seriously? Didnt expect him to be that blunt

Aha yeah right. That's why he can't even do his own "choices" right.
Which I've told you - time and time again - is dangerous! There will never be consensus, son, among those you have helped to ascend. They will all differ in their views of what it means to be free. The peace you so desperately seek does not exist.
These men are united now by a common cause. But when this battle is finished they will fall to fighting amongst themselves about how best to ensure control. In time it will lead to war. You will see.

Did you ever think that Naruto would last this long?
- Actually I never imagined it, I actually thought it might be canned after the 10th week. That's actually a regular occurence at Jump, after episode 10, 'THE END'.
Did the editors of Shonen Jump want you to continue NARUTO?
- Well I'd be lying if there wasn't some pressure from mangement. But I had a pretty clear idea how I wanted to the series to end, but I put my foot down and said "this is when I want it to end, this is it"
You said you had the Naruto ENDING perfectly visualized in 2006. Did you end the Manga how you wanted to back then?
- Actually it was all in my end. I had envisioned that Naruto and Sasuke would make the sign of recoliniation in the Valley of the End.
You've been working on a lot of stuff; Naruto Gaiden, Boruto Movie, etc., how is your work load?
- So um, yeah life got a little bit easier when I finished drawing Naruto. It might not be obvious to the fan's, but literally as I was drawing the last chapter, I was told I was going to write the script for the Boruto Movie. It was just recetly that I finally got time to relax and spend time with my family. After the scree play.
Other than Naruto, who is your favorite character of the series?
- Jiraiya
y'see ! He planned the ending, the one in chapter 698 not the chapters 699 and 700...

If the SK shipper in the Kishimoto tag is to be trusted. She could be making it up I guess, but I figured if she were she'd have spun it in a more positive way, lol

In Japan... Is he being xenophobic/racist? Maybe he's saying something similar to "my house my rules". Or he trying to assert that it was his decision on how the manga ended. Given how short and curt the answers was though it does sound like he was probably asked that question often by a lot by people. Seriously he couldn't have answered it in a nicer manner?
How was it even his choice? He left the last and the ending up to SP who wanted a nH ending and he at best went along with it?

He could have but I can understand why he was so curt. I'd be kind of irritated if I was asked the same question again and again by fanatics

She(?) cleared it up a bit and said he meant it was his choice to do Sasusaku, basically. I'm assuming he got asked about SK/NS a lot, so the Japan part might have been a comment about the West not effecting his choice? Not sure : p
