I don't think there's a plot hole at all.  In fact, the movie goes to quite a bit of effort to foreshadow Naruto's birthday.
 

Because I'm a nerd....

In the beginning of the movie it's daylight, and Naruto walks past the billboard of a kid celebrating his birthday with his parents.



Then he walks past a family who have just bought a birthday cake for their child -- in the beginning it's a girl.



After his Tsukuyomi experience with Sakura-chan it's dark, and Naruto walks past the same billboard of the kid celebrating his birthday with his parents.



The family who bought the birthday cake is different -- and this time the kid is a boy.



Iruka surprises Naruto with what is, inarguably, a birthday cake.

 
That's why the tie-in with Naruto's birthday in this chapter of the manga jumped out at me.  It seems to me that the movie's focus on it was intended as a reminder that his birthday is pivotal to the story.

The prologue of road to ninja is set in July according to The calendar in Naruto's room.



I was just saying that if Iruka brought the cake just to make it up to Naruto for the earlier discussion they had in the story, than it's fine, even if it's a birthday cake.

But if he congratulated him for his birthday (which I don't recall, I just remember him saying "welcome home"), than there would have been an incoherence with the timeline of the story.

But honestly who cares, I never questioned it that much, because I always thought it was just to symbolize it and give the audience a message of the author's intentions, that's all.

The really curious thing is that all those events shown in RTN are now reflecting in the manga timeline :)

I think the movie is more or less a prototype for the current plot in the manga. Kishi simply had some ideas he wanted to put in the manga, (the current events) but he decided to set up a prototype first before working it into the manga.

I remember on Tumblr when I first commented on that how much hate I got from certain people... now it's like everyone is shutting up saying nothing... on the contrary, some of them actually agree, but of course, not that part of the fandom who gave me the hate, hehe.

By the way, today do we have a release of the Japanese chapter or?!

hopefully either mangapanda or mangastream will translate it after the japanese raw their provider gives so that we know if Rin's death is linked to Naruto's birthday.

yeah I'm sceptical too about Rin's death coinciding with Kushina but if it's true this is one hell of a plot twist.

Mangapanda don't think they will change anything, so mangastream is our best bet of clearing this mess up. And of course the japanese raws.

 

and btw crazy thought. But seeing that chakra has a link with personality isn't it possible that Sakura's seal to have inner sakura inside of it?
