After that I went to my Spanish class. A few weeks ago I was almost starting to feel like Rachel from Friends. During the break between classes almost everyone went out to have a smoke and I stayed in class with a girl who always talked on the phone. I was really wondering what was so interesting down there so I started going with them.

Smoking's not good for your health Nina-chan.

Most of the other people I know smoke too, but it's not cigarettes, it's weed, something I refuse to smoke.

Do a lot of people smoke in Croatia (or wherever you're going to school now)? I spent a semester in Madrid when I was in college, and traveled around quite a bit, and I was amazed at how many European teenagers/college students smoke cigarettes. I had quite a few madrileƱos in my classes, and I don't think I met a single one who didn't at least smoke casually.
Anyways, I'm the same way (I coincidentally took up the habit in Spain, but I've taken it down a notch since I came back), and I haven't had problems yet. Unfortunately, my brother also started out as a social smoker, and he's addicted now. So I'd say some people get addicted easier than others.
I don't really have a problem with weed per se, but I do tend to avoid it nowadays, what with the ever-present danger of random drug screenings you have when you work full-time. I definitely partook quite a bit in college, and I'd be lying if I said it wasn't fun, but with how strict current laws in the U.S. are, it definitely isn't worth the risk of ruining your future.
So is bad grammar.

Anyways, this isn't directed at you, Leo, but I've always laughed at how bad the anti-drug campaign is in the United States. When I was in middle/high school, it was always, "Think for yourself! Don't give in to peer pressure! Only you can decide what's cool!"
Now, all of sudden, I'm seeing anti-drug ads going, "Hey kids, not smoking is the cool thing to do. People aren't doing it, so go fit in with the crowd."
And I'm thinking:

But I wouldn't judge all smokers the same way. It's a bad habit, but so is anything done in excess. Cigarettes are just easier to get addicted to than video games, T.V., junk food, etc.

Agreed. It's better just to list what smoking does to a person, then letting the kids think about it and decide for themselves.
