Honestly, it's sad, but I barely feel sorry for them. In the end it was just their own fault for making poor decisions.

I'll give that last dollar of change that I got from buying junk food away.

I don't feel sorry for them at all; anyone stupid enough to believe in apocalyptic bull**** to the point where they piss their whole life away in anticipation quite literally asked for it.
The worst part is the hardcores won't admit they were wrong; they will have an excuse at some point.
You know, next year I'm probably going to be rolling around to whatever garage sales I see; if you're going to find any fantastic bargains, next year will probably be the year for it.

The number of believers was on the high side of my estimates - or they were very generous.

His followers must be really gullible people.

Reading Nick's post, it looks like Family Radio are really stretching the definition of "non-profit". Seriously, this is why I despise evangelists like Camping and all those TV preachers, they give religion a bad name. "Give us money and you shall be saved!"

I saw a great quote in the comments.
"It's a shame that stupidity can't be converted into a usable energy source."

(For the younger readers, a "record store" was a building that you had to go to when you wanted to buy music.)
(For the younger readers, "buying music" was the way we acquired it, since we couldn't just… you know what, let's just get back to the Bowen song. Stupid kids, you ruin everything.)

Be the Ultimate Ninja! Or Reaper! Or Zombie Killer... or something. Play Billy Vs. SNAKEMAN!

This is really one of the problems with all of this; the fact that money changes hands. It's something that's long come with the religious territory, but these guys just take it into the sleazy territory. Unfortunately, the religious seem to have a pretty bad track record for seeing things like this for what they are, or at least the people with the wool pulled over their eyes.
These things are essentially scams in religious wrapping paper.
There was a Televangelist back in the 80's who basically said that God would strike him down if he wasn't sent two million. People sent him cash. And we wonder why they pull things like this.
