Did anyone see Red Riding Hood? I did, and it was surprisingly good.

I saw Battle Los Angeles, never seen Skyline, but Battle has a perfect blend of drama and action in my opinion. Aaron Eckhart's character is quite charismatic, almost made me think he was similar to The Doctor or to Shepard. XD

It was also refreshing to see aliens as being somewhat even with humans in terms of military combat, it was only their superior tech that basically kicked humanity's butt...kinda like most invasions/colonizations actually.

I saw it and I have to disagree. I felt that the acting was way over the top and laughable at some parts. Plus other things bothered me like the guys having hair styles in old times when the only way to get hair like that is to use gel. Also there was one point where music was playing in the movie and it sounded like something Lady Gaga would put out.

Battle Los Angeles is awesome. BATTLE LOS ANGELES IS AWESOME!!! BATTLE LOS ANGELES IS AWESOME!!!

Except for maybe the beginning when they use the same shaking shooting, but Skyline is definately a cheap knock off of this thing!! Fast start but freakin adrenaline rush.

I haven't seen it, but i get a feeling Independence day was much better.

Same basic premise, but no freakin Randy Quaid in an airplane and add Michelle Rodriguez but more District 9 feel then Independence Day.

I haven't seen it yet, but a friend of mine and my brother did (separately).

The friend said it was really cliched, and that too many characters were introduced but not fleshed out enough to be engaging.

My brother said it was awesome, the story was cool, and the effects were really well done.

I think both your brother and friend are correct-ish, although for me, I never got into the individual characters except maybe the main character, but the trials and tribulations they faced during the movie was presented well enough for me to connect to them. Insurrection's correct, it has more of a District 9 feel than Independence Day.

Hmm. So, a decent enough movie to go see in theaters, or something so-so that warrants waiting for the DVD?

I saw battle Los Angeles this weekend, and I think it was an pretty good movie, I would give an solid 8/10 if I were to review it. Seriously, what's wrong with this movies reviewers latelly, every place I go, "professional" reviewers give an low score to the movie, while I found it pretty enjoyable, sometimes I think this guys are nothing but an bunch of idiots with undeserved jobs, it pisses me off. Anyway about the movie, the action and pacing is really good, the majority of the characters are likeble, and aliens fighting with more conventional weapons rather then fancy looking laser rifles was very refreshing too. I felt that some scenes were unecessarely dramatic, but nothing that would ruin the experience. This movie is much better then Skyline for sure, and I recomend it for anyone who likes alien invasion films. I also saw the game on youtube, is actually pretty good, for an downloadable game, that's it, if you can handle some cheap comic book like cutscenes.

I saw Battle LA too and I understand what a lot of the reviewers were saying. The movie isn't anything we haven't seen before. Some of it plays out like a bad first person shooter. You have your usually blend of the typical cliche characters. The 'freak out Rookie', the 'Veteran Serge', the 'bada$$ Chick', some well known landmarks destroyed, some cg fire fights and that's about it.

And while I was able to enjoy the film for what it was, there is nothing in it that actually stands out from other alien invasion movies. There are not real well developed characters. No one that really steals the show or grips you in. There are no performances that stand out. Everyone here does just enough to get their character's concept across and that's just about it. And while I do like Aaron Eckhart, this wasn't going to be a breakthrough role for him.

I could see Chris Pine as Kaneda and James McAvoy as Tetsuo. Only problem now is, if they're going to rename the characters just like they tend to do when an Eastern concept falls into Western hands. ^^

I agree with those points, and even though it was rather Twilight-y, for some reason I can't bring myself to dislike it.

I saw Sucker Punch as well. I liked it. I liked the unconventional storytelling style of the film. But after reading up on it, I found out that Snyder edited a lot of the film to fit it's pg-13 rating. So, I'm going to wait till it comes out before I give a final say.
