Guess this chapter is obviously guy centered since he is going out. Much as we want to see that NS recovery scene, its most likely off by a week again. But this should still be entertaining after seeing madara all wrecked up from the previous chapter.

Maybe not. Maybe Kishimoto will deal with Naruto too. I hope so =)

There's still the aftermath and Guy's resolution to cover before the focus is completely returned to Naruto. The fight seems to be moving into its last stage and this next bout will probably take up most of the chapter before the gates burn out and the recoil takes effect as a cliffhanger ending. Surely Guy will have some parting words with Kakashi and Lee, especially for the latter since the torch still needs to be passed.

Since this is chapter 5 of the current volume, the climax of this volume is either

Guys final acts

Or

Naruto and Sasuke return setting up the fight with Madara to stop him from getting the chakra fruit.

Generally it seems odd though that in the entire history of the series, the majority of those who get killed are major characters, not main or minor.

Likewise it's those who have died or have come close that strikes me as an oddity,

Shikamaru, tsunade, and gaara all came close (gaara is an expection though given he was revived)

Jiraya, itachi, neji, and now guy are in the dead pit. Obito most likely may go here too.

So when it comes to the deaths of major characters, generally it's those who either have had enough story investment to merit a send off as some resolution or action that entails the success of others, like jiraya dying to Nagato but with the knowledge that naruto would succeed in his will, and that though he died, he knew he was able to win.

This makes me think... Rock Lee seems not to be able to surpass his master soon, I mean wow, another move besides the gates that Gai had and Lee can barely open 6 gates? Hmm, bit disappointing to be honest...

naah, it's guy at 100%. It seems a dragon that move, that's interesting because the dragon has a green skin, usually... And Guy has a green uniform. Also, in the Ancient China, the dragon was one of 4 celestial spirits, alongside the phoenix, the unicorn and the turtle (guy's summoning in fact).

 

There's also the dragon turtle. From wikipedia:

 

A dragon turtle is a legendary Chinese creature that combines two of the four celestial animals of Chinese mythology: the body of a turtle with a dragonlike head. It is promoted as a positive ornament in Feng Shui, symbolizing courage, determination, fertility, longevity, power, success, and support. Decorative carvings or statuettes of the creature are traditionally placed facing the window.

Mapmakers sometimes drew dragon turtles along with other fantastical creatures in unexplored areas.

Well he's still young and Gai is going eigth gate, so he's going to be too strong by default. It's still a huge sacrifice. Plus, again, Lee is still young and it's most likely he will surpass him in the future. Doing 6th gates and Chunnin at his age is great and Gai couldn't be prouder. So Kishi uses Gai as the only guy to sacrifice to save Lee from doing it. Make sense to me.

Guy is certainly going all out, the Turtle looks more like a Dragon to me but still very cool, reminds me of when Naruto first went nine tails and we saw the Kyuubi as the chakra coat, only this looks so much better (On a completelyy unrelated now I wonder if the boss summon for Gia's turtle would be as big as that giant floating Turtle Naruto trained on. I wouldn't actually mind knowing if there is a backstory to these giant beasts, the sage did mention the prophesy was made by a Gamamaru, who according to Narutopedia is also the name of the really old Toad sage, Seriously that guy is old, I wouldn't mind knowing their backstory.)

 

I'm expecting this chapter will go something like Guy going all out, making a dent in Madara but ultimately failing, then switching to Naruto, but his face won't be shown, we'll see him thanking Sakura for saving him, then cutting the conversation short as they need to return to the battlefield and it will end with Naruto and Sasuke on the last page with their new powers.

 

Then the next week somewhere along the way Tenten will turn up and Naruto will use the Sages weapon in battle.

I don't mind if this next chapter is all about Gai. I really liked his last combat chapter. It was well drawn and had great stagedy by the others. Plus it's nice to see Gai get the respect that he deserves! Yep!
