Space, the final frontier...
For the past fortnight, I have been playing Star Trek Online with GoNeKr@zY as my guide. Star Trek Online takes everything from Star Trek lore and crams it all into a space MMO that lets you command your own starship and boldly go where no man has gone before. There are all sorts of missions too, from simple exploration, through solving mysteries, to full-on space warfare.
It's completely free to play, though it does have an optional pay-to-play and microtransactions. The ground combat is very average, but the starship combat is where it shines, especially when you're working together with team-mates. Krazy is in command of the Alliance Navy fleet, which is a friendly community that likes to team up and help each other.
So, we're looking for fellow H&Ers to join us!
Free to play, eh? So how do I sign up?
Star Trek Online is only available for the PC. If you have Steam already installed, it's the easiest thing to just find it in the Store and download it free of charge. Alternatively, you can download the game directly from its official website.
Steam is probably the best choice as you can see when your STO-playing friends are on, plus the Steam Wallet is a simpler method of buying in-game stuff if you ever have the temptation to splash out.
I've registered! What now?
Simply create your character, and let us know so we can find you. If you have any questions - even about creating your character - just ask! We'll be happy to guide you through the first moments of the game and help you level up.
The three career options - Tactical, Science, and Engineering - can be broken down into this:
- Tactical: All about the firepower, they excel in dealing damage to enemies. They use Escort vessels, such as the USS Defiant from Deep Space Nine.
- Science: They are the Support/Healer class - think the STO equivalent of magic users. They use Science Vessels, and are capable of both dealing and healing damage.
- Engineering: They are Support/Tanks. They're designed to soak up a ton of damage and help repair damaged teammates. They also have the biggest ships in the game, the Federation Cruisers.
In game, my character is a male Vulcan Science Officer named Sakkhet. My current ship is the USS Tyrion:
The first ship you see at the top of this post is my old one, the USS Daenerys. You can probably spot the theme. XD
Hope to see you online!
