Space, the final frontier...

For the past fortnight, I have been playing Star Trek Online with GoNeKr@zY as my guide. Star Trek Online takes everything from Star Trek lore and crams it all into a space MMO that lets you command your own starship and boldly go where no man has gone before. There are all sorts of missions too, from simple exploration, through solving mysteries, to full-on space warfare.

It's completely free to play, though it does have an optional pay-to-play and microtransactions. The ground combat is very average, but the starship combat is where it shines, especially when you're working together with team-mates. biggrin.gif Krazy is in command of the Alliance Navy fleet, which is a friendly community that likes to team up and help each other.

So, we're looking for fellow H&Ers to join us!

Free to play, eh? So how do I sign up?

Star Trek Online is only available for the PC. If you have Steam already installed, it's the easiest thing to just find it in the Store and download it free of charge. smile.gif Alternatively, you can download the game directly from its official website.

Steam is probably the best choice as you can see when your STO-playing friends are on, plus the Steam Wallet is a simpler method of buying in-game stuff if you ever have the temptation to splash out.

I've registered! What now?

Simply create your character, and let us know so we can find you. smile.gif If you have any questions - even about creating your character - just ask! We'll be happy to guide you through the first moments of the game and help you level up. biggrin.gif

The three career options - Tactical, Science, and Engineering - can be broken down into this:
  • Tactical: All about the firepower, they excel in dealing damage to enemies. They use Escort vessels, such as the USS Defiant from Deep Space Nine.
  • Science: They are the Support/Healer class - think the STO equivalent of magic users. They use Science Vessels, and are capable of both dealing and healing damage.
  • Engineering: They are Support/Tanks. They're designed to soak up a ton of damage and help repair damaged teammates. They also have the biggest ships in the game, the Federation Cruisers.

In game, my character is a male Vulcan Science Officer named Sakkhet. My current ship is the USS Tyrion:

The first ship you see at the top of this post is my old one, the USS Daenerys. You can probably spot the theme. XD

Hope to see you online! biggrin.gif

I'm going to be away for most of the weekend (until Sunday evening), but Krazy will be on tomorrow.

the space battles are shown decent in there.
only thing is there's no internal view while in space.
thats just some movie magic they threw in.

Also... Here's my ship :-

The U.S.S Oscar :0

Add me up on steam. My username's gonekrazy3000.

Cool. biggrin.gif

Just to warn you, at first you'll feel like you're trying to cram tons of stuff into your head in the first hour. But the game eases off after that, and we'll also be able to help you find your groove. happy.gif

not really. just 1 public server that everyone connects to.
there is a 2nd server but that's only for beta testers of patches.
to even SEE that server you have to be selected as a beta tester.

I just used Steam screenshot. smile.gif

You can hide the interface with Alt+F12, then press the screenshot key you set in Steam (I set mine to Shift+F11). I'm sure the game has its own screenshot key, but using Steam's screenshot feature for all the Steam games lets me keep them all organised in one place that I can easily browse through.

So I got my computer fixed finally, and downloaded this game after a little pestering from Krazy. I'm running into a problem hoping y'all can help me. I have tried multiple times to create a new character, each time without fail I get a character creation failed message. I went to the support but couldn't find anything helpful.

All help appreciated happy.gif

Edit: Character creation finally worked. Made it through the tutorial and I'm pleased to say the game is very fun. Now to find the S.S Azura, these space maps melt my brain.

btw Character name is Murs

Edit2: Nevermind I'm good to go, hope to see everyone else who plays online soon c:

Yeah, I noticed that last night as well. I'll look into it tonight and check how the rules have been set up.

Don't forget to log in tonight and check out today's event! It's First Contact Day (5th April is the date the Vulcans visit Earth after Zefram Cochrane's successful first warp flight), and they will be giving away replicas of the Phoenix, as well as allowing players to visit the Starfleet shipyards at Mars for the first time.

Yeah, I still can't put stuff in the new Common Samples tab. I think that used to be a Unique or high level tab that I didn't have permission before someone switched it all around. Haven't tried it today, though.

...Also, enjoying my pointy customized Star Cruiser, Shad's Spear.

Sorry for the wait, Krazy and I have fixed it all now. smile.gif The new permissions have been triple-checked as well.

Post a shot of your ship, if you can! My engineer is currently enjoying a Galaxy-class cruiser, the Hyperion. Haven't got any good shots of it yet, but will try to post someday.

I would, where does Steam store screenshots? I don't want to clutter up my brother's HD with screenshots of a game he doesn't even play. XD

Oh yeah, tried out the Fleet bank, I can put Common Samples in and just joined the Omega Force guys.

So, decided to make a Klingon engineer by the name of Uji. Was bored with end-game stuff and wanted to check out the Klingon campaign and ships, seemed like the Klingon faction got the raw end of the deal by the developers.....
