Sonic fans just can't get a break can we? 

 

God, just from the poster alone Sonic's design makes The Smurfs movies look like Paddington. He seriously looks like a lab experiment where they combined the DNA of a small child and an actual hedgehog. And there's a black dot looking shape on him which looks kind of like the eyes on the classic Sonic, which doesn't work with the look of Sonic from Adventure on down, and pushes it even deeper into the uncanny valley. I've also seen people talking about his new shoes, which I get; it looks a bit weird seeing him in freaking Nikes rather then his own shoes which he's worn for every game. It doesn't bother me that much, but someone pointed out that if you are going to replace the shoes why not do the soapbox shoes that were brought in for Adventure 2 and never used ever again and I do agree with that

Also, and I can't believe I never noticed this before, but I just noticed that there's this cloud-like aura around him, and electricity on his feet like he's the Flash. I really don't get why that is

Well, it is the whole thing called Blue shift. Basically, it is a real life phenomenon where if enough energy is exhibited through photons by wavelengths, the light around the person begins to appear to be a blue hue. The more the energy photons have, the blue-er they look. If they are red, they are losing energy. So Sonic is exhibiting so much energy running, he would indeed appear to have a blue shift energy cloud around him. This is why lightning looks blue. It is all about energy.

Oh it's gonna be horrible. Buddy of mine's actually really excited about it, because he's sure it's going to be a "so bad it's good" thing. I guess the screenwriters are the same people who did all those Scary Movie knockoffs in the aughts.

I did not know that. I can see it working as a visual, (heck it'll most likely be the only visual that works) but that did kind of seem like an odd choice at first

You can get a sense of this if you watch something like The Flash. He starts out having red or bright yellow energy sparks which look cool at first, but it means he is not going as fast as he can. When he starts giving off blue energy he is basically going near full potential. It is a handy little clue indicator.

Although, with Reverse Flash being deep red, it kind of goes against all logic. It could be that it was just to show him losing a lot of energy or it could be just an artist visual to distinguish them from each other.

One of the fastest clocked times for a blue shift would be Mach 3352.

Not exactly lightspeed, but still pretty fast.

Light speed is about Mach 874030.

I doubt it'll save the movie but at least he looks like Sonic.
