I came across this on Tumblr and loved the look of it. Naruto is the King, and Sakura is his Queen, and they both look really badass. 
I'm so tempted to get a set for myself...
On a sidenote, I'm a little confused as to why Shikamaru is only a pawn.

Well, Shikamaru did consider himself as a pawn to Asuma, so maybe that's why. Who knows, but at least he's there.

On a sidenote, I'm a little confused as to why Shikamaru is only a pawn.
To be fair, there are only twelve pieces (six on each side) and each one is meant to represent the six piece types. Considering Shikamaru is the weakest among those characters as well as not being as infulencial to the story as the others (I'd say Gaara edges ahead of him slighty), it's not all that surprising to me that he represents the Pawn piece.
Still, if they ever decided to make a full piece chess set I'm sure they'd give Shikamaru the piece Asuma said he most strongly represents - the Knight.

Naruto Sasuke and Sakura are all main characters so of course they get to be pieces. Sakura being queen makes sense because she's female and Naruto being king makes sense because he's the hero. That said, this did put a smile on my face.

So the price for the set is ¥950. If I'll convert them into PHP:
950 ÷ 2 = ₱475
So expensive.

I actually saw this on tumblr and it looked pretty cool, but what I really liked is the fact that Naruto and Sakura are both the king and queen.

I guess Naruto is sitting on the bijuu gates and chains (it look like his mom's chakra chains), cool that he has minato's kunai.
Sakura on danzo's bridge, Sasuke on Itachi's death wall, Shikamaru on his house's porch, Kakashi on a kawamiri log, and Gaara on blocks of earth similar to his home country's.

Well, I just ordered a set. In the end, I just couldn't miss out on having badass Naruto and Sakura pieces on my desk.

Yeah, it makes sense because Naruto and Sakura are the main hero and heroine, but it does indeed make me smile! I like the thought of Sakura kicking all kinds of ass on a chess board to protect her King.

Yeah, Shikamaru as a Knight or Bishop would be good, with Sasuke being the other piece. I like the thought of Gaara being a Rook, as he and Naruto can work together on a castling move. Kind of like Gaara using a sand shield to protect Naruto.

I see, thanks for correcting me. I only guessed the character's piece value based on their role and significance to the story, so it made sense to assume Sasuke was the Rook, to tie him with Sakura as the 'major pieces', compared to the Bishop and Knight which are 'minor pieces'. Still, taking their personalities and motivations into consideration, Gaara seems to suit the Rook more than Sasuke does, and considering Sasuke's intentions with regards to Naruto at present time, I much prefer having Gaara provide the King's defence.

The more I think about it, I like that Sasuke is a knight because it's what I would imagine him in his future status. If alive but don't return, he can protect Konoha when no one expected. Think as a superhero in their first run, where police force can't approve his/her appearance because that person is not one of them, but at least be thankful for stopping the crime.

Awesome chess set , sadly it says it's already sold out . Guess they didn t make that many . And do not undervalue the pawn , it can revive the queen (though it was the other way around in the manga )
