You know I find it ASTONISHING how double standard Naruto readers are with Sakura compared to the attitudes of other and even worse tsunderes. Anything other tsunderes do are more tolerated if still not liked, but Sakura is treated like evil incarnate for treating Naruto like anyone else treats him, when in fact she does not show hateful disdain for him like most of the village, she just thinks he's is an annoying prank-filled loser that is not cool and Handsome like Sasuke. And that stems from the petty reason that most are not even willing to let go of that first impression because they over sympathize with Naruto's tragic back story and think Sakura does not understand him, when she bonds with and grows closer to him through out the series. That said, the way she was written just to prolong the kittening love triangle did her no favours, that can not be denied.
On the flip side, Hinata does not even attempt to bond with or get closer to Naruto but Her hierophants think that they are a match in heaven just because Hinata is crushing on the social pariah and that makes her "entitled" to him.
While this thing discuss so many time, i really love sakura discussion.
Sakura is the most hate character bar none. Part of it because she's tsundere or violence girl, useless, weak/cry, love Sasuke, hate Naruto, and she's in the threat for nh. It's the combination of all the above.
For tsundere, as a wholesale (in fandom), usually you either hate her or love her. There's those who doesn't care but it's not much.
Tsundere from another media usually has thing to balance their annoying trait. Like Asuka from Evangelion who kick ass, kagome story focus, generic modern tsundere character who secretly like the male character like Mikasa mikoto from index, sana who has all of it. And many more. Oh and Rin from fate franchise.
For sakura since her first impression is bad and author doesn't develop her story, it make fans as whole doesn't change their opinion. Sakura is a character who need character development. the author know that but he's not consistent with it. I think post chunin Exam arc, sakura has good character development which may or may not coincidence with ns development. But it doesn't address one of the biggest sakura problem, her weak and useless. Only on the part 2 Kishi address it by giving her Tsunade move set. But he doesn't continue it and that's a bad news for sakura like character. And then land of iron arc happen, sakura popularity Plummet, and Hinata become more popular, and Kishi change his mind.
While Hinata is not relevant to the plot. Her popularity among fan, assisten, and studio pierot staff are the biggest contributor for nh to happen. And i understand where that come from. Hinata doesn't do what sakura did in the beginning of Naruto thus setting up her character (intentionally or not) to be "better" in the eye of her fan and most netral. I mean when you have female blogger support Hinata and therefor nh, you know how hard sakura position.
On top of that since she rarely write by Kishi she is shelter by Kishi horrible writing unlike sakura (and Naruto).
