I've never watched the other movies, but I know the deal OK. But I watched this one because of the hype. Was fun and everything. And kitten now I have a crush on Poe and his actor, ahg I didn't need this..
I think Rey is more OP than a Mary Sue. She has some complexity, I think female characters gets branded a MS so much easier than men. Maybe Kylo Ren was defeated because they're not planning to make a sequel? IDK. They should, if they like money. Maybe he takes a Zuko.
Rey's mind control was kinda cool actually, but I didn't like how she suddenly became a swordmaster after refusing to fall off a cliff.. Her knowledge on those machines made absolute sense, but they pushed it too much with the constant compliments from Han. I think Finn is cute, but I've seen his character in so many other movies, he is nothing new. I think my fav character is Rey, Poe, and Maz.
My biggest complaint was Han Solo's death, I mean wtf? Is that how he really died? I expected more than that from such a big character, and Wikipedia showed an entirely different ending for him.
My prefered term is a snowflake. She is too special and things go her way too easily at times.
I think it would be more realistic if Rey got her ass kicked by Kylo at the end and maybe lost a foot (protagonists losing their hands in lightsaber duels is getting too predictable by now). I personally only like Poe. He doesn't show much, but I like his casual suave (but not smug) guy attitute. I don't like Rey much by reasons stated above while I consider Finn the Kaidan Alenko or Jacob Taylor of Star wars. Generally nice guy that tags along with the protagonist and helps out, but ultimately feels like an irrelevant sidekick.

I think what people need to remember is that Rey has pretty spent her whole life up to that point in the crapper.
She was just abandoned on Jakku for reasons yet to be known and, from what we've seen, has been forced to fend for herself (wouldn't surprise me if she had to teach herself how to fight in order to fend off others who would steal her salvage and worse) and having to work her butt off every day just to barely get by and survive on her own. Even Anakin at least had his mother to raise him, and Luke had Owen and Beru to take care of him and care for his well-being, future, and such.

@alexander
She's special because she's the heroine who have big destiny await for her.
Kylo ren is wannabe darth vader and Incompetent, but imo it create a contrast that would be interesting to show.
Kylo ren is not the only light saber user so we'll see more sith in action.
I agree with sushi that she's not really a marry sue(perfect character), but more a competent character if not op.
Well, I don't like these types of storyline. I prefer protagonists who are average people with no special background who only succeed because they work hard or know how to work as a team. Having everything conveniently falling in their lap because they are the chosen one does not appeal to me in the slightest.
While I agree that Kylo is just a Vader wannabe, he was show to have some level of competence, at least he was trained by both Luke and that cartoon guy. His talent come from somewere. Being beaten by an complete amateur, even while wounded was pretty ridiculous in my view.

Teaching yourself to fight and lightsaber fighting are black and white. Especially since the latter relies heavily on the force.
There's a clear progression in the original 6 movies with Lightsaber combat but the idea is the same. Mark hamill says that George insisted that Lightsabers were supposed to be heavy and Luke only improved in combat after much training.
Without any training at all Rey and even Finn to an extent master the art to the point of defeating a powerful force user who was trained by Luke Skywalker.
The concept of training is ignored and while some make an interesting argument that rey may have been trained the Jakku flashback shows that she was dropped off while still a very young girl of about 7 or 8. I doubt she would have much training, especially since in the flashback of ren killing jedi they are all adults
He Who is Brave is Free-Seneca
^I have a lightsaber your argument is invalid^
"You may be called upon yet again to defend the glory of the Republic against the tyranny of the Dark Side. For this, is the destiny, of the Jedi..."

Obviously Padme lived and her and obi-wan had kids who went on to have Rey.
@fyuria
I still don't get why you call the first 6 movies trash.
Or do you said that because people complain about tfa?
People complaining need to remove the stick from their asses regardless of my opinion.

@fyuria
I respect your opinion, so why do you think the first 6 movies trash?
Do you like tfa?
I was saying they were trash because thats what everyone who was complaining about TFA sounded like.
And yes I personally did.
