True, but Pokemon is also caught in the same time never to move on. The characters never age and Ash will never be a pokemon master because he is forever 10.

I can understand not wanting the series to end. But at the same time, series that never end tend to really decrease in quality once the original driving point of the story has been achieved. Authors eventually just run out of good ideas, and IMO sometimes it's just better for a story to end quickly than to drag on for far too long.

Naruto seems to have decreased in quality as it is, having been going on since 1999. (Hope I don't seem too negative, several things have actually impressed me about the series throughout my viewing of it, including in part two.)

BTW, you appear to be new here? Welcome! This is a good forum, you'll like it.

I can understand not wanting the series to end. But at the same time, series that never end tend to really decrease in quality once the original driving point of the story has been achieved. Authors eventually just run out of good ideas, and IMO sometimes it's just better for a story to end quickly than to drag on for far too long.

It depends on the series.

In some series the status quo never changes and the characters never grow up or develop. It is expected that fans leave and move on when they get bored with the stories, and new and youngers fans replace them. You can think of several examples of characters and series that never change and you would not expect them or want them to change: Looney Toons, Disney characters, The Simpsons, Peanuts, Doreamon, James Bond, Asterix... If you realize, many of them are characters of children series.

In other series, though, the plot and the characters develop. You can also find plenty examples easily. Several of those series, though, follow a Monster/Villain/Menace/Trouble-of-the-week, and the plot advances slowly (examples: Mazinger-Z and other mecha shows, Sailor Moon and other magical girl shows, Gatchaman, tokusatsu/Power Ranger series...). You can watch ten or more episodes before finding a meaningful change or development. That format is not bad on itself, but it can lead to the audience to mistakenly believe that the series is boring because the plot is slow (when in reality you have a new adventure every chapter).

And there also are some series where the plot advances until the creator has reached the status quo that he/she wants, and then it stops until the creator decides finishing the series. This can be done well (Kimagure Orange Road) or bad (Inu-Yasha).

Of course, every method has pros and cons. I agree with you that it is bad when a series continues past the point where it should have concluded. However, nobody would expect that Bugs Bunny ever changes or Donald Duck's nephews grow up, right? But what happens if your audience leaves and it is not renovated with new readers?

Personally I think it is better decide on what you want beforehand (immovable status quo or progressing plot) and stick with it. For that matter, I also think that neverending series endure better the passing of time when the status quo and the characters never change. American comic-books such like Superman or Batman sold better when the story was the same issue after issue, and they were read by children that did not care about the repetitiveness until they did, and then they left and they were replaced by other children.

However, usually it is not a good idea turn a series with a developing plot in a static one and vice versa. Rumiko Takahashi often falls into that trap. Urusei Yatsura had a fixed status quo and Maison Ikkoku had plot and characters that developed and progressed. Both series are considered good. Ranma 1/2 and Inu-Yasha at the beginning progressed... and then the plot stopped, became repetitive, and fans complained that the series dragged on and the ending was inexistent or unsatisfactory.

Spider-Man is the opposite case. When his co-creator Stan Lee wrote the stories, the character developed and his world changed. Several of his sucessors imitated him, and the character progressed. However later writers tried to undo the changes and freeze Spider-Man in a fixed status quo that they favoured. Fans revolted and left the book in droves every time, most of them did not return, and they were not replaced with new readers.

I... I am not sure of what point I am trying to get to. Anyway, I stopped to watch Pokemon after the first seasons. However newer fans started to watch it, and that is okay. It goes on because it is not intended to end. Complain about it feels like a waste.

Naruto, on the other hand, Is intended to end, but because it has been going on for years and there is no end to sight yet, fans feel the plot is stale and the creator is dragging it on.

So no, it can not be like Pokemon. It should have finished several years ago.

I don't want it to end either but if it was like Pokemon I  would stop watching it would get boring after awhile everything would seem redundant. In Pokemon I  got bored with the way they defeated the enemy it was like you knew how it would end before it ended. Even the characters they brought in seem reused and recycled. But don't worry you can read fanfictions that what I do when an story I really like ended there are some really good writers you make it seem like a plausible continuation of the original story.

Why do people NOT ship these two? I just don't get it.

Probably cause they hate Sakura. When she's probably the most developed female character in the whole show.

I respect Hinata, but Sakura deserves some too.
