The first 8 pages were literally spent with Naruto and the sage bickering at each other. The rest of the chapter was reconfirming all of the stuff we already knew.

This is exactly how I feel, and exactly why I didn't want another history lesson chapter.

I mean, is anyone seriously surprised by this parallel "revelation"?  We have known (or should have) from the moment the history of the Sage was first mentioned that his two sons were the prototype parallel of all the sibling-like wannabe leader clashes that followed.  Hashirama and Madara, Obito and Kakashi, Naruto and Sasuke. Light and Dark.  Love and Power.  Screw Up and Genius.

Is it just fate, fate, and more inescapable fate?

I just don't know what message Kishi is trying to display with this manga anymore because history keeps repeating itself and Madara is stronger than everyone from the new generation combined.

Yes.  I don't really get it either.

Interesting about the mom, the rabbit goddess. Hopefully that will go somewhere. Kishimoto has a bad habit of writing powerful women, but fails to give them active roles in the story. Would really like to see more about her.

I agree.  Kaguya was the only interesting and fresh thing about this chapter, in my opinion.

Anyway, any chapter focused on Naruto is a good chapter. Wouldn't say it's the best, but definitely interesting and a nice change of pace from war stuff or secondary character flashbacks.

Oh, and I know it's for comedic effect, but everytime Naruto comes out acting stupid, I just think, "This is the guy who's supposed to unite the ninja world? He's supposed to be kage?" It just seems like he needs another timeskip or something. (And then other times he seems totally mature. *shrugs*)

I loved seeing so much of Naruto.  He may be a bit dense or mentally sheltered, but it still rubs me the wrong way when he is made to feel like a loser.  I found the Sage to be a lot less wise and sage-worthy when he stooped to essentially calling Naruto "no good", and saying that even the most talented parents can produce a child who doesn't inherit their potential.

What was the Sage's point with all that negativity -- of knocking Naruto down -- while boring him with his backstory before he "must entrust" something to stupid, incompetent, incapable old Naruto?

Couple of things I noticed....

In one of the panels of the Sage and his two sons, on the tapestry or whatever behind them the moon is over Indra's head, and the sun is over Ashura's.  It makes me wonder why the moon has figured so much in the story, but not the sun.

The Sage's use of the water to show Naruto images of the past reminds me of Galadriel pouring the water into the basin and showing Frodo similar images.

Honestly I am a bit tired of the goof personality. They are not the ultimate. And parallels are much more..poetic, when they are unspoken.

I feel like this chatting will go on for a while. : ( 4 chapters maybe?

I don't think Ashura being Naruto's former life further weakens or destroys his underdog stats, but I think it further strengthens it. Given how both show despite being children of powerful individuals and families you don't alway inherit their skills right away and you have to work hard to get it.

Naruto is still choosing his own destiny he has done so many heroic deeds and choices of his own path before he fond out about his past life and before he fond out he may be this child of prophecy, heck we got a chapter flash backing all his accomplishments from Ebizu who used to hate him in the Pain arc. I doubt he really cares that much about who he was in a different life.

Crazy how all Bijuus' words make sense to connect to Naruto, mainly chapter 572. Or whenever the time Naruto got the names. Seeing that picture of RS and the dialogue from them really connects to fill in either son or successor. Either way, that's the case. I even wonder if they read others. I do wonder why Naruto. He's an Uzumaki. So you telling me 1/16 of Senju in you triggers it or is there something we just have to wait. I guess that's the case for me. Next chapter should be explaining why and how.

Hmm I wonder. I think its entirely possible that kishimoto sensei might throw a big fat middle finger at all the Sakura haters/useless/Med ninja sucks crowd.

The notion if Ninshuu to me is a notion shown in Medical Ninjutsu. Healing the mind and body and even the soul. Using Ninshuu to communicate and remove the abrriers between people is the theme he seems to be going for with its introduction.

Ninjutsu is the perverted form of ninshuu. A more external application simplified and primitive compared to Ninshuus more complex internal form. this is a yin yang comparison in many ways.

I think Sakura may be his inheritor along with tsunade and other medical Ninja who represent the life aspect of Ninshuu.

my first official post! was i the only one that was a little ticked by the so6p having to comment on naruto's lack of talent? to me, that comment was completely unnecessary plus the fact that if you are about to entrust the future of the shinobi world and some power, than why are you telling him about his lack of talent? i thought that comment was completely out of place for what was going on

Well it's like how Sokka's master said it before. "It wasn't your skills. No, it certainly wasn't." Truth hurts but you do get the upside to it because of how you overcome it. I don't mind at all. Wise. Maybe too wise.

Yeah, Naruto has had more people inside him watching his every move: Minato, Kushina, Kurama, and now the Sot6P. Underdog, I think not.

It begs the question, is Sakura a 'chosen one' as well? Is she a reincarnation and that's why Naruto is so immoveably attracted to her?

And is Sasuke reincarnated or just a parallel?

(And seriously, Kishimoto's plot devices are more like a Hall of Mirrors. At some point, all the parallels loose their thrill and you just want to find the way out.)

Anyway, while using reincarnation is an easy character twist, it always leaves me wondering about the rules: Does it apply to everyone else, or just the hero? Are they doomed to fight someone elses's battles endlessly through time?

Interesting about the mom, the rabbit goddess. Hopefully that will go somewhere. Kishimoto has a bad habit of writing powerful women, but fails to give them active roles in the story. Would really like to see more about her.

Anyway, any chapter focused on Naruto is a good chapter. Wouldn't say it's the best, but definitely interesting and a nice change of pace from war stuff or secondary character flashbacks.

It just seems like he needs another timeskip or something. (And then other times he seems totally mature. *shrugs*)

I think it makes Neji's speech and the complete denial of one of major mottos of part 1.

About hard work surpassing a genius and Neji's quote about destiny.
It made that Naruto's destiny was like that, he was blessed with powerfull parents, bloodline and being the reincarnation of ashura.

Neji was right.

Naruto said that with hard work he could change his destiny however that was his destiny all along.

I think you misunderstand the purpose of Naruto being told that, it is true though, Naruto has not inherited any of the genius abilities of either parent, he doesn't have the Chakra abilities his mother had and he doesn't possess the intelligence of his father...however he trained hard and created his own strengths, and has suggested that he will be able to unlock further powers to reach the next stage, just like the Sages's son. What the Sage is telling him, is that even though he wasn't born with the skills and talent, he has worked hard overcome any boundries, and now he is among the elite shinobi not because he was born a Uzumaki or the Son of the Fourth Hokage, but because he trained to reach that level.

It's about time Kishi went around explaining why Naruto was not given any of his parents abilities, which I still think sucks, but atleast now we know there was a reason behind it all. though I don't think Naruto has really unlocked the power that takes him at the same level as Sasuke, or more accurately you get the feeling Sasuke is going to get a new upgrade soon, so Naruto himself will need a power-up, and maybe this time the power-up will be his own, and not linked to Kurama or Hermit mode., maybe the giant Asura like the younger brother would be cool, that guy was sporting five Rasengans.

Naruto said that with hard work he could change his destiny however that was his destiny all along.

Ironically it was his destiny to work hard to overcome his destined lack of genius abilities. So either way he was screwed, if he didn't work hard he would be giving in to his destiny of not having talent, but if he did work hard then he'd be destined to overcome these hurdles and be destined to save the world.

 Welcome! Yeah, I thought the same thing. It bothered me to have Naruto put down in such bald terms. I hoping the translation softens it some. I feel like it's a set-up, like it's a label for Naruto to rail against and draw strength from. It does feel weird to have him say that right now though. Like what's the point? Haven't we already covered this territory? *shrugs*  :zaru:

I have a feelings it's this way: When the Rikudou and his brother fought the Juubi, they separated the Juubi's chakra from its body and the Rikudou sealed the chakra in his body while the brother sealed the body aka the Gedo Mazo in his body. Later on the Rikudou created the tailed beasts from the chakra that was in him. And the brother sealed the Gedo Mazo in the moon before he died.

This is quite likely IMO. People could have very well mistaken the Sage's brother for the Sage himself. Which is why legends had him sealing the Juubi whole instead of splitting it into the body and chakra into 2 people.

Hmm I wonder. I think its entirely possible that kishimoto sensei might throw a big fat middle finger at all the Sakura haters/useless/Med ninja sucks crowd.

No, ninshuu that the Sage meant takes the form of Naruto's chakra cloaks that he gave to the alliance. Through the chakra cloaks everyone was able to connect with Naruto's feelings. It was shown a dozen chapters back, if I'm correct.

Well I think all this means that Naruto VS Sasuke final showdown is inevitable. I just wonder what Sakura will do when both these boys battle it out and perhaps repeat history once again?

I think this entire chapter was one big foreshadowing event showing that this war arc isn't going to be the final arc (or atleast not the final battle)

Basically it lloks like this is leading the final battle be between Naruto and Sasuke where they may or may not end up killing each other just like Asura and whatshisname did

That makes sense actually. Sasuke being Sasuke won't hesitate to exact his revenge on her if she comes in between their battle. And this inturn would distract Naruto and he would have two things to care about one being protecting Sakura at all costs. This will make it even easier for Sasuke to kill Naruto which Sakura dosen't want at all. So I guess its better if she stays away from the battle and just mentally be with/side with Naruto rather than physically be there for him. Another approach, Sasuke is about to kill Naruto, Sakura comes in the middle, she takes the blow and dies maybe giving her final words like "I love you, Naruto". Even if Naruto wins against Sasuke he's mentally doomed for his life(seeing his love dying infront of him, that too protecting him. He'll think he could not protect Sakura, which he wanted to keep doing all his life and the confession will all the more aggravate it). Even this is something Sakura dosen't want since she wants to see Naruto smiling all the time(The fact that when he's about to die, what she thinks of is his smiling face, always). But the Sage said that when his sons(incarnated in Naruto and Sasuke-assumption- in the present) fought, their bodies were destroyed. I guess its safe to assume, that's what will happen when Naruto and Sasuke fight. I don't know how Kishi will get around this if he wants to make NS canon and keep Sasuke alive. It may turn out something like Harry Potter ending or maybe like how Beyblade series ended, I mean Kai and Tyson were destined to battle one another and one of them was supposed to win, them being the strongest beybladers of their generation. But at the end, when everything returns to the way it should be, it is shown that Kai and Tyson battle it out, ofcourse like a friendly sparring match and everyone is watching them, cheering for each one of them to win, who wins is not shown. It might turn out to be the same incase of Naruto and Sasuke. They'll have their final sparring match just like back at the academy days(Ofcourse both of them smirking at each other in a friendly way with the motto of revenge nowhere to be seen) where everyone/Konoha 11 is watching them and cheering for each one of them and we may or may not get to see this awesome match(Rasengan vs Chidori *_*). And then we'll have our usual NS stuff, like Naruto and Sakura getting married and having a child and everyone's condition when they grow up will be shown, ending the manga on a positive note. Now this is just my theory on it, don't know whether this will actually work out or not

P.S-I do sense there are some plotholes in that sparring match part. But I can't figure out how to connect things, if things go this way.
