If he is we'll know where to find him. Holy Crap!!! We got the Motherload!

QUOTE (Politico Story Above)
The assault force of Navy SEALs snatched a trove of computer drives and disks during their weekend raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound, yielding what a U.S. official called “the mother lode of intelligence.”

The special operations forces grabbed personal computers, thumb drives and electronic equipment during the lightning raid that killed bin Laden, officials told POLITICO.

“They cleaned it out,” one official said. “Can you imagine what’s on Osama bin Laden’s hard drive?”

You know it's a good thing he's gone and all, but celebrating in the streets wasn't nessacary. I get that he was "evil" and caused my bad things, but death is never something to celebrate, it should have been more a silent victory. Now that this is out of the way, maybe the government could attempt to fix our econmy just by a little, instead of spending tons of money...

A symbol. Not all of them. There are only rough estimates to their amount of members, and if they're as low as a thousand operatives there would be little point in fighting over who gets what if there will be nothing to get done. This is not America we're talking about, this is an Islamic organization of modern-day sabotouers who are fighting for a crusade of their own. They won't fight bitterly over who-gets-what, because by the time the fighting is done between them there would be nothing left to attack the enemy with. Osama was no fool, he would never have a command of miscrients and losers; he would've trained every one of them equally to respect their leader by Islamic law, and that is what they will most likely do.

Just because it's not the United States doesn't mean that they're automatically an elite fighting force. Since 9/11, al-Qaeda has attempted at least half a dozen new attempts on the United States, most of which were almost comical in their failure despite our poor security. (And yes, I'm aware that they've succeeded in some attacks on other nations.) Al-qaeda is barely even an organization now due to its fragmentation from the revolving door in the leadership (mostly due to US attacks) and the infighting amongst the rest of leadership. Without a solid home base, they've been unable to provide much support to their branch outfits and they've splintered off.

They were virtually deprecated to bogeyman status even before this. Ironically, the amount of attention that we've been giving it in the press is virtually the only thing that has kept it going.

Which isn't to say that they aren't a threat at all, but the threat that they pose has been dramatically exaggerated.

QUOTE (Sakura Blossoms @ May 2 2011, 04:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well, the US military is now saying that they had no choice but to do this, as it's a strict Islamic law to bury a body within 24 hours...but this sure will not help to mitigate claims from conspiracy theorists that the body is not Osama's:

http://www.cnn.com/2...tion=cnn_latest

Well, they did have a choice. However, they chose to be respectful of Islamic law. It's similar to the Gulf War 1 when the US let the Saudis advance into Kuwait first so that it wouldn't raise memories of Western colonialism in the area. We might occasionally show an accidental lack of respect to other nations, but we can get the little things right, too.

We have proof. It won't satisfy the conspiracy theorists on any side, but it's good enough for the sane 80% of the world. Trying to be respectful of Islamic law is just good diplomacy.

I totally agree. I'd be happy if we could bring our troops home after this. We went on the defense by going on the offensive but maybe now it would be better to bring our forces and our attention closer to home.

Also agreed. I am the only person I know in my 'offline' life who feels this way. Glad I'm not the only one here online who does.

And here is a look into the Situation Room leading up to the events that took Osama out:

http://news.yahoo.co...fullnationyahoo

This will work out to be a major political victory for Obama.

Though dumping the body into the sea truly was a stupid decision, and one that turns out not to be in accordance with Islamic law:

http://news.yahoo.co...t-sea-a-mistake

Excerpt:

QUOTE
U.S. officials have said they wanted to avoid the al Qaeda leader's grave site becoming a shrine for his followers. They've also said it would have been difficult to find a foreign country willing to accept bin Laden's remains, especially in so short a time: Islamic tradition and practice call for the body of the deceased to be buried within 24 hours of death.

But several Muslim authorities said today that the sea burial in fact violated Muslim tradition
--and warned that it could help trigger calls for revenge from militant Muslims.

The celebrations don't really bother me. They're juvenile, not particularly classy and it's elevating him to more than he was. But they're all minor sins.

Well, the suspicion of conspiracy theorists are sound. After all, they could've at least asked for civillians in the area to take a look at it so they would testify it is in fact his body. I'm not a conspiracy believer. But the fact the information is only coming from one way, (the U.S government) I pretty much have a right to believe there's something fishy (no pun intended) about it.

Admittedly, it's beginning to make even me wonder. I'm not suspicious as I am taking the evidence provided of his death at face value. But this whole burial at sea thing truly shocked me when I first heard about it, and it now begs the question, "were they trying to hide the body/destroy faked evidence?"

Bad call all around and they better start diving for that body, and hope they can somehow salvage it...that being pretty unlikely at this point -.-

Coming from the army side, we've always been told to never keep a body. After a fire fight you are to photograph the remains and leave them be. I've been told that in circumstances where bodies are taken they're not kept for long and usually given back to the family/neighborhood. But since they were on a aircraft carrier I can see how dumping him in the sea would of been the best if not exactly the smartest option.

why yes. that is my adorable sister hugging a dakimura. got a problem?

This is really the problem with the modern day. We're so advanced that nothing is conclusive enough. Everything could be forged. Everything could be shopped. We've always had conspiracy theorists, but these days it seems like there are more or them. There is no truth because nothing is true, it seems.

As for Bin Ladens death... I can't be sorry for feeling pretty alright with a monsters death. Human life may be precious for most people, but men like him don't deserve it. If that makes me a bad guy, well, I'm sorry you feel that way.

I feel the same. All that "USA" chanting they showed on TV just bugged me. It's not a ball game folks. Bin Laden's death means very little as far as the wars go. I would have much rather had him be put on trial, perhaps at the World Court.

I think as well of the very perceptive words Kishimoto said in the Pain arc about war, hatred, the cycle of revenge, etc... Honestly, it made me think even deeper than I had on those issues, and I immediately thought about those words when I heard the news. I'm betting that's how Kishimoto is reacting to the news too, since those were the words from his own heart.

Thankfully, at my work the comments were pretty low key, the most out there comment was one of my male coworkers made a little joke (before the library opened) about how they killed Bin Laden- it was not gross or anti Islamic and was mildly amusing- we all kind of chuckled briefly, then went on with our work.
Dream you dream alone is only a dream, but dream we dream together is reality- Yoko Ono 1971

When you go to war, both sides lose totally- Yoko Ono

They were trying to get rid of the body in the one place no one would be able to find it. If anything it was a balance between respectful act of diplomacy and if you want to kitten with us we'll find you and dump you into the ocean too.

Nobody is going to find that body.

But for others, remember to consider who Bin Laden was to America...he was the bad guy. THE BAD GUY of this generation.

US is still considering to release photos.....

If they want to do it, they'd better do it fast. Even if it's risky, I think they should do it ASAP to quell any doubts out there. I think that's more important than worrying about national security. Why?? the whole world won't rest and be relieved until they see the photo with their own eyes.

Unless..... Zero can hack in or steal the photos though......
