#883147 Kishi Shonen Jump interview

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 21 October 2015 - 05:35 PM

You what I just realized, the 'real' villains of Naruto were the Biju themselves!!! Think about it, if they never existed none of the s**t that has happened would have happened. If there weren't any Biju, then there wouldn't be any jinchuriki which means Rin wouldn't have been killed which means Obito wouldn't have gone crazy and just stayed dead, which means Akatsuki wouldn't have been twisted into a merc group which means Naruto would have had a family which means he would have understood love which means he would have realized that Hinata was nothing more than a stalker who couldn't gather enough courage to talk to him without fainting which means we wouldn't have had Naruto: The Travesty I mean the Last. Think about it!

Maybe being a little sarcastic but still all of the Naruto world problems go back to the Biju and the Sage.

It's particularly frustrating because Kishi had so many opportunities to develop Hinata's character in a way that would leave many of us—and I feel comfortable making some conjecture here about folk's attitudes—far more comfortable with a NH pairing. He laid some seeds in Part 1 for Hinata's character. She drew inspiration from Naruto. She disliked the way her clan was structured. She had relationship problems with her family. Had he continued to develop her along these routes, he could have made a character that was both independently strong and mature and someone who could pair well with Naruto for a mutually supportive relationship.

Instead, we get one moment during the fight with Pein and then she's largely forgotten until she trips over a rock.

As for how it's directly ruined Naruto's character: Even the moment I personally wanted to see most (A triumphant moment where he's named Hokage in front of all his friends) is, from what I recall, subverted in favor of telling a fun story about Hinata's daughter.

Infuriating.

Exactly!!!

While I still would have supported Naruto/Sakura but if Kishi had made Hinata into an actual character instead of just a two-dimensional piece of cardboard that she is, I would have accepted Hinata being with Naruto. Kishi had so many chances to make Hinata into a likable character, like you listed, but he kept going with these so-called red herrings to 'throw' people off the scent. He says that he's not comfortable with writing romance but if Kishi is able to write Naruto/Sakura so well, as just a red herring, then it makes you wonder why Naruto/Hinata was so poorly done? It almost makes you think that in the end, Kishi just couldn't handle the pressure coming from outside influences and caved, giving the Naru/Hina lovers what they wanted on the surface but did it in such a way that everyone knew that how horrible the pairing was planned out. With all the interviews that he has made since the manga ended, I wonder if he is just constantly making things worse for Naruto as a way to get back at those who pressured him into making the ending end the way it did, like a massive middle finger to SP, etc.

The HARD truth!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Anyway... It is practically impossible to make pretty Himawari, because she combines the father's ugliness and the mother's... weirdness (?)...

Sorry, but she is TOOOOOO ugly!!!

Anyone notice that in the fan art drawing that Sasuke has both arms while Naruto still has the fake/Zetsu arm. That right there should show the world how outlandish these people are, they have to have Sasuke seem perfect while having Naruto missing his 'real' arm.

Ok, from here I can see that Kishi is literally giving the middle finger to all sides of the fandom. Yes, I mean all of us. At this point, he's doing what Rowling is currently doing years after HP ended.

I wouldn't go that far. JKR has been filling in the world that she created with tidbits and new information that doesn't really affect the actual story, she's fleshing out the world that she made with Harry Potter in ways that she couldn't in the actual books. The only information that I would say that compares JKR and Kishi is that interview with Emma Watson a year ago when JKR admitted that pairing Ron and Hermione together was more for wish fulfillment and keeping the pairings together as originally constructed instead of going along with how the characters were developing while she wrote the series. That is really the only major 'possible' retcon that JKR has put out there since the Harry Potter books ended.

On the other hand, it seems that every time Kishi talks he is totally changing something about his series, even after it has already been completed. JKR hasn't gone back and said that Harry knew Ginny before he knew about the wizarding world and then just forgot about her until the end of the War like Kishi did in The Last, when Hinata suddenly was Naruto's first friend and bond, even though the manga never supported this in any way.

#880782 Masashi kishimoto will be going to comic con in new york city

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 08 October 2015 - 09:09 PM

Here's what I would ask him if I interviewed him.

1. Why did you not give Sasuke a punishment he deserves.

2. Why did you say you planned NaruHina from the start then condricted it?

3. Why is Orochimaru still alive?

4. Why did you say Sakura is a terrible woman if she gave up on Sasuke?

What would he say to those questions?

He would probably just answer with some sort of 'I'm not here to talk about Naruto'.

If I had a chance to ask Kishi about the series, I would stay away from the pairings because I know he wouldn't answer them. I would ask these two questions:

1. Why is Naruto so weak when he returns to the village after training with Jiraiya?

2. Why did you completely contradict yourself with the introduction of reincarnation after having Naruto harp about 'how Fate/Destiny doesn't matter'?

Though I wouldn't expect any actual answers from Kishi because I'm sure he knows how badly he/SP screwed up and knows that nothing he can say will make up for it.

#879961 Least Favorite things About Part 2

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 04 October 2015 - 04:45 AM

I would say my top three Least Favorite Things about Part 2 would be the near total focus on Sasuke and the Uchiha Clan rather than the title character, the constant power ups and the fact that all the main characters' characterizations were wiped out just to 'try' make the pairings make sense (which still failed miserably).

#879361 Behold The Man Who Didn't Understand Love.

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 01 October 2015 - 02:15 AM

That is the biggest issue with the entire series, Kishi was boxed into a corner in the end. His title character was a person who could empathize with most people because he knew what it was like to be alone, to be seen as someone or something that he wasn't, to be treated poorly just because of who or what he was, it was a character that spoke to most people because we've all been there at some point in our lives. Wanting recognition, to be seen for who we actually are, not what people think we are. And then he totally destroyed that character by folding to pressure, making Naruto into a shell of what our favorite annoying blonde prankster was. He pretty much went Danzo/ROOT on Naruto, wiping all of Naruto's personality and turning him into a walking Hinata-zombie. The fact that they (Kishi and SP) had to use a genjutsu to totally wipe away the Naruto manga just to attempt to make things work with Naruto and Hinata shows how poorly planned and rushed the ending was.

This is a man who used Naruto/Sakura as a red herring and had how many people believing that Naruto/Sakura would be the endgame, dropping all these little hints throughout the manga but couldn't be bothered to drop little hints about how Hinata was supposed to be the person that 'truly' loved Naruto and was always there for him. Pretty suspicious but I could just be salty of course...

And behold the rose-tinted pairing goggles-wearing comments section. XP

Just scrolled through your attempts to enlighten poor brainwashed fans of Kishi in that comment section. I applaud your conviction but I would just let it go at this point. We know that Kishi has torn apart the manga and canon with all the retcons he shoved into the final bits of the manga and afterwards. Now if he had had the guts to come out and say, I messed up with these parts of the manga, I could partially accept things but he has just made things worse by constantly doing it more and more often, and screwing up things even more. One must decide what they consider canon to actually be; is it the manga only (1-700), is it the manga plus the Gaidens, or what? To me, canon is the manga (1-700) plus the Sarada/Naruto Gaiden.

#875021 Jiraiya Hiden

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 09 September 2015 - 03:49 AM

Difference between Tsunade and Hinata is that The former is an actual character.

Fixed!!!

Hinata can't even be considered a character, perhaps in Part One when her dream is to grow strong enough to bring the Hyuga Clan together into one family and getting rid of the Caged Bird Seal. Part Two Hinata is purely a caricature of a small side character where her entire life revolves around Naruto, disregarding anything else even at the cost of her loved one's lives.

#873578 How Did Hinata become so popular?

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 01 September 2015 - 10:06 PM

When did you stop liking Hinata? I did during the last when she rather knit a scarf than save her sister from a creepy villain.

I can't really say I ever liked Hinata, but I didn't dislike her until the ending of the manga and The Last film. To me, she wasn't a big enough part of the manga to waste time liking or disliking, and I think that's my biggest issue with Naruto. We know so little about Hinata, outside of her world pretty much revolving around Naruto, that we are geared toward disliking her. All that we know about Hinata is that she's extremely shy, thought weak by her family and that she has a overwhelming crush on Naruto. With Neji, we found out why he hated Hinata (due to his father's death stemming from Hinata being kidnapped) but we still never found out why her father thought her weak, or why her sister thought herself stronger than Hinata. Hinata's potential and characterization is so poorly done that we can't help but dislike her because it seems that all she cares about is Naruto (though this is on Kishimoto more than Hinata herself). Heck, her dream of uniting the Hyuga clan apparently is never achieved because she is just a housewife.

#873355 How Did Hinata become so popular?

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 31 August 2015 - 10:59 PM

It really is interesting how popular Hinata has become especially here in America, at least from what I've seen/read. I don't know if I'm just an outlier but I'm a guy who wants a girl who is going to speak up for herself, stick to her convictions and be my equal, not a doormat. And from what we got in the manga and the films, Hinata is nothing like that, she is quiet, doesn't speak her mind and gives up pretty easily (though she does get Naruto) on her dreams. My favorite female character is most certainly Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, she optimizes what a real female lead should be; brave, outspoken and not willing to back down from adversity. Even though I didn't like how JKR put Hermione with Ron, she certainly did things right when creating a true female hero and 2nd tier character (since Harry is 1st tier). Is Hinata's personality and characterization just a result of Japanese culture or something else?

#872688 Boruto - the movie

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 28 August 2015 - 11:36 PM

Ugh, I never liked Sasuke. At all. There are so many examples of his type of character I could list that are waaay better written. But that could probably go for all the characters. I don't really like any of them anymore, they're all butchered.

Sasuke is a big part of the reason why these characters were butchered. I don't think it's possible for anyone to tell me he made Naruto and Sakura into better characters. Not one bit.

I'd go as far to say Sasuke's the reason is the reason NS didn't happen. Sakura couldn't move on from him, for whatever reason, and they used Naruto-Sasuke rivalry as a scapegoat to completely extinguish Naruto's feelings for Sakura.

He's the one character in the series that I just wanted to see go away, but instead Sasuke eclisped Naruto as the main character and now he's never going away because SP knows he's a big part of the money making machine. That's been made pretty clear by the success of the Boruto movie.

I tolerated Sasuke in Part One because you could see that Sasuke was starting to turn away from his avenger ways with his interactions with Team 7 but Part Two Sasuke totally destroyed any characterization and growth that he might have had in Part One because Kishi totally reverted him to a revenge-obsessed emo prick (though I did like his interactions with Taka). And all of Naruto and Sakura's characterization and growth were sacrificed at the alter of the all-might Sasuke. The fact that Kishi had to use the excuse of Naruto not knowing about love (when he was the most empathetic character in the series, Talk-No-Jutsu) is the biggest slap in the face in literature/manga that I have ever read. I hope that the money that Kishi got/gets from Naruto is worth it after totally destroying a very successful and popular manga/anime.

I would have had Sasuke die during the final battle against Madara (totally erasing Kaguya and that ridiculousness), perhaps in a similar way as the Wave Arc as a Circle Theory point. Then show Naruto, Sakura and the others react and grow from Sasuke's death and the War (since so many of the older characters talk about how war is something to be avoided at all costs, yet it seems that this last war didn't affect the characters in any meaningful way) and have the final chapter of the manga showing Naruto's inauguration to Hokage with Kakashi, Tsunade and Gaara standing up with him, with panels of Sakura, the Konoha 11, Iruka and Konohamaru, etc looking on proudly. You wouldn't even need to show any hints regarding pairings, leaving it open to the fans.

But of course we know how Kishi went about it, taking the 'kowtowing' route rather than standing up for his creation.

#870480 Boruto - the movie

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 20 August 2015 - 03:48 PM

So what stopped Kishi to make Naruto at least faster. more agility, strenght at the begining of part 2? Naruto got ovned in every fight in his base form (with the exception of Naruto vs Kiba in part 1. And that fight was also not up to standards imo). I don't care for Kurama. Have him fight and win against anyone in his base form. Hell even other characters have done it beside Sasuke. So WTH Kishimoto!

Also Sasuke having the fights Naruto should have shows who Kishi thinks is the mc. Not Naruto...

I've always had issues with how weak Naruto is after training under Jiraiya for 2+ years. All he learned was how to make a bigger Rasengan, channel a couple tails worth of Kurama's chakra and summon Shadow Clones in various places (not just around him), and basic genjutsu defense. It would have been nice if Naruto had learned some actual jutsus, or even learned how to create a Rasengan using only one hand. That at least would have shown some more development in his ninja growth. The key to the Rasengan is that fact that it can be created and used in one motion, but Naruto using Shadow Clones to help limits its effectiveness. The fact that Naruto was so limited when he returned showed to me that Jiraiya wasn't a very good teacher, nor was Kakashi (as well as how badly Kishi thought things through regarding Naruto's growth as a ninja).

#858662 The NEW NaruSaku Debate Thread

Posted by SlyNinjaKnight on 21 July 2015 - 04:58 PM

One would think that if Naru/Hina and Sasu/Saku were such excellent and perfect pairings that Kishimoto wouldn't need to come out and defend his choice of putting them together. With each 'reason' he/SP gives it is just throwing more and more fuel on the fire that is the ire of 'true' Naruto fans, those of us who enjoyed the series for it's messages of perseverance, determination in the face of obstacles, that hard work will trump 'genius' as well as friendship and loyalty, and not those 'fans' who only like the series for it's terrible ideas of romance and love. Naruto has dissolved into a worse version of Harry Potter with all the shipping wars that have gone on, especially since JKR came out earlier this year with that article on how she might have made a mistake putting Hermione and Ron together in the end. At least in Harry Potter, the red herrings/teases that JKR gave the readers were just that red herrings/teases, and that they flowed in the story. She didn't go back after finishing book 7 and change the first couple chapters of book 1 to include Ginny as Harry's 'forgotten guardian angel'.

It's hilarious to read reviews from Hinata lovers/Sakura haters on ff.net in my Naruto-RW story who are bashing me for 'bashing' Hinata or 'praising Sakura', or even comparing the two with their fangirl/stalkerish tendencies when I am trying to build both Hinata and Sakura's characters up to a respectable level.
