I really don't understand the insistance on the forehead compliment. It seems to be a staple of the argument for this pairing. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm for it and believe it is the only pairing that makes sense by the logic of the story. But why is this so dramatically important?

It's pretty much like Kushina for her hair except it's even deeper concerning Sakura. I mean she thought Sasuke was the one who said those words, the exact words she really wants to hear from the one she loves and care about her. For many people, it can be one of the reasons why she's still holding to Sasuke... before he left Konoha in the end of part 1, Sakura brought this scene up and he said he doesn't remember, which is obvious since he wasn't there.
If Sakura finds out that Naruto was the one who said those words, well he'll get a punch first because he took Sasuke appearance but then I don't know what could happen. I don't think her feelings will switch toward him in a flash ( first because she's not a robot and second because I think she already has feelings for him but can't express them correctly), but step by step she'll realize that Naruto knows what she thinks and what she wants to hear.
