#478083 Brazil protests spread in Sao Paulo, Brasilia and Rio

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 21 June 2013 - 11:04 PM in Ichiraku Ramen Bar

We've managed to lower the bus fares, but the manifestation continue to happen. Now there have recently been some violence and vandalizing of public monuments, that's totally uncalled for. I'm actually disappointed that they're giving the protests a bad reputation, even if they are the minority. There've been rumors that the mayor of Rio is paying these people to trash things. Even if they are rumors, I wouldn't put it past the mayor.

BTW, yesterday there was a protest in Rio that gathered over 300k people.

#477895 Video Of Woman Cut In Half By Elevator Is Harrowing

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 20 June 2013 - 11:41 PM in Ichiraku Ramen Bar

That is just horrible, that's such a horrific way to go. I'm not sure if I'll watch, even though part of me wants too. I too am afraid of elevators. My fear started with the movie Speed. Whenever I enter one I always hold my breath. Till this day most of my nightmares have me stuck in an elevator that swings side to side, or plummets down. My heart goes out to the poor individuals who suffered such a fate.

They censored the video, so you can't literally see the woman get cut in half, only the reaction of the other people in the elevator.

Poor woman, she was probably going through her day like any other, and then this happens.

#477688 Encouragement for Writers

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 20 June 2013 - 03:21 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

When I first started writing, I sucked at it. Granted, at the time, English wasn't my primary language, so it was understandable.

What really helped me improve was reading.

I was a slow reader, and favored short texts. Now I can read a 32 chapter long book in a day.

But what reading does, is it widens your vocabulary, and your perspective. You learn the dos and don'ts, the techniques etc.

To write something, you have to like the topic; it has to be something that catches your attention. There's a book that literally talked about trash, and because it's so well written, and the reader can 'see' the writer's passion for said topic, the subject 'trash' suddenly becomes fascinating.

My advice is to write what you love, because more ways than not, you'll probably be good at it.

“If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”
-Stephen King

#477685 What's happening?

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 20 June 2013 - 03:08 AM in The Library Coffee Shop

I sympathize with your impatience, but as an author, I can tell you that we don't do it to hurt our readers. Some wait for a while for the feedback (I do believe I'm guilty of this), others are busy, others are lazy or procrastination, others have write's block, or maybe they've lost interest. It's not uncommon to find unfinished story in FF, so if the story you follow hasn't been updated in the better part of a year, then it probably won't be updated.

#477675 Brazil protests spread in Sao Paulo, Brasilia and Rio

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 20 June 2013 - 01:51 AM in Ichiraku Ramen Bar

I also live in Brazil but for me i see that those protests are not right, not because of 20 cents or whatever becasue it took greater proportions to a point that now people demands more health care, education and public security, there are a lot of people there but there's no coletive thinking most of the people are there but with different demands on their heads, the problem is the politician and how the cash is administrated but few people has the idea of how the system work, example, they demand education but blame the president Dilma Rouseff and not their respective state governors which are responsible for the educational system and so on...

I would gladly join the protests but when i saw people carrying flag from parties like PSOL, PSTU and other parties i decided to not join.

It's the R$0,20 that started the whole process, the last straw. Now the government has been forced to look at what the people want. The majority of the protesters are non violent, and only the idiots that really have no life turn the protests violent. Hell, they've already lowered the price of the bus fare in many of the cities, including Rio and São Paulo, which, if anything, is progress.

Now the flags that people carry to support their political parties are frowned upon, and most of the protestants get rid of said flags on spot.

The problem is the government. Not the president, governors, or mayors. The problem is the mediocre infrastructure that's been holding us at a stand still.

And it's happening all over the world, in various cities, it's not just in Brazil.

#476921 Brazil protests spread in Sao Paulo, Brasilia and Rio

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 18 June 2013 - 12:10 AM in Ichiraku Ramen Bar

http://www.bbc.co.uk...merica-22946736

Today I had the honor to be a part of one of the biggest protests in Brazilian history. The overall reason to said protests is due to the rise of the bus fare from R$2,75 to R$2,95. Now, I know that 20 cents isn't anything at all, but due to the inflation rising beyond the charts, we Brazilians have decided to react.

Here in Rio de Janeiro, today (June 17th, 2013) 100k people gathered at the city center to protest. Most of said people were uni students, including myself.

The older generations say that we're lazy.

They're wrong.

#467287 My FF.net pet peeves...

Posted by Cupcake-chan on 27 May 2013 - 12:56 AM in Writing Discussion

For me, the obvious ones are not having simple grammar and spelling.

I also agree about demanding reviews. If it's a challenge, I can understand a little more. However, if you're just writing a fic, write it because you enjoy writing and have a good idea for a story, don't do it for the attention of reviews.

Alternate universes are also a pet peeve of mine, especially high school fics, they are usually very low quality.

In regards to "Naruto" specific pet peeves, my biggest gripe is Naruto having to wear a mask where underneath he's a genius and usually a jerk who hates everybody.

Reviews can also be somewhat annoying. I can't stand it when I see a story that's usually not only short, but has very, very obvious spelling errors, and the review could be "great story! narusaku 4ever!" Whenever I see a review like that I feel like Mugatu in Zoolander when he said "DOESN'T ANYONE ELSE NOTICE THIS? I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!"

It's better than receiving a review with "nice" or just a smily face.

Those annoy the hell out of me.
