Yeah, Geno is a member here and he's a very gifted author. However, he has been decidedly unhappy with the direction of part two and has been inactive for a long time.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "gritty". The phrase has been horribly over-used IMO and isn't really the same as realistic.

Is Fitting the Pieces something along the lines of what you mean?

Just finished reading your story recommend, and yes, that's basically what I'm going for when I say 'gritty and realistic'. As in, a story that has elements of suffering and joy in it. Not just the "I lost the fight, must do better!"-although that can sometimes be entertaining for a little while-but real suffering.

After all, you can't have joy without suffering.

Thanks.

Part two of the manga. I suspect that he may not have any "recent" comments left because we had a malfunction transferring the files to a new server.

It's OK, I found them. Yeah, seems like he started having problems with the story almost right after the end of the Chuunin Exam arcs. Some of his criticisms made sense and resonated, and some were true examples of different strokes for different folks. Heh, he hates Gaara a lot more than I do! Personally, I like Gaara's character.

Well, I would like to see more of Naruto himself in these arcs, though. For example, how does the village feel about him now? Naruto's life is pretty insular, but still he's not dealing just with the same fourteen or so people in his life, is he? Ahh, well. At least now I know where he went! Guess he just fell outta fandom with Naruto is all. Too bad.

Heh, dig your screen name and your avatar, Nick smile.gif

While I certainly agree that normally 'gritty' is not synonymous with 'realistic', I think when we're talking about a society of highly trained assassins and warriors, well, 'gritty' becomes at least a *bit* more synonymous, right?

By Part 2 you mean Shippuuden? Is he referring to the anime, or the manga which covers the part now called Shippuden on TV? I would guess it's the manga, if his inactivity time is any indicator.

I'd be interested to see what his thoughts are on the subject, I'll check his name and see if he's made any posts on the subject.

I'll add that story to my list and read it, and let you know if that's what I meant smile.gif

Oh, and to clarify I suppose what I meant by 'gritty' in this context would be a story that includes fightin', killin', hurtin', sexin', lovin', cheatin', and double-crossin'. Not *exclusively*, just *includes*.

#116163 Gritty Realism Authors of Naruto FF

Howdy!

Heh, I had to think awhile to expand this thread to be a discussion about something broader than the question that's really on my mind, hence the title and descriptions above.

Perhaps it's because I heard the Phil Collins song 'Another Day in Paradise' the other day, but it got my in quite a cynical and sad mood to say the least, reflecting on humanity in general. Just what in the hell does that have to do with Naruto Fanfiction, you ask? Simple!

I don't know what got me going on fanfictions. I think I've read one fanfiction before in my life, but for some reason I decided to pop a search in on Google about it, and was shocked to realize there were thousands of authors in the field, so to speak! Well, one of them, probably my favorite so far, is an author named 'Geno Calamari'.

Some amazing stories!

My favorites are the ones under the 'Cold and Unforgiving' category. Despite the name of the category, they're not all doom and gloom and in one of them there is even a happy ending.

The question that prompted this thread was my wondering, "Where on Earth is this guy now?" I'm not a crazy stalker type, I'm not talking geographically here. I was wondering where-if at all-on Teh Interwebs this author may be found, if anyone knows? And my search led here, because a Google search led here!

But that's not enough for a thread on its own, so I decided to broaden the field as I said smile.gif So, people, who are your favorite grittily realistic authors for Naruto Fanfiction-especially NaruSaku FF, because in my opinion such a coupling in the Naruto world begs for a grittily realistic framework.
