The good things they are doing is Spider-Man. Like no way home, Spider-verse and Insonmiac.

Honestly if they kept going with what nick Spencer did I'd see more people reading those comics. Granted they are rebooting ultimate spiderman under John Hickman telling a new adult spiderman I hear discribed of being like Peter B. Parker from spiderverse.

Because they listened to Bendis when he stated that established lore, personalities, relationships, etc. didn't matter and to write whatever you want in continuity.

Where did he say this? If it was because of the ultimate universe, that logic would only work in a eleseworld universe without the main continuity like injustice.

Though etheir way I'm not suprised as bends has always had a mixed bag of a reputation with comicbook fans.

Video games surpassed comics about 20 years ago, the fact that comics have been in decline since the 90's not helping them, and they surpassed Movies in profits almost ten years ago. Though that went unnoticed due to the stranglehold films have over western culture. Granted, I am assuming you are thinking games are only recently getting big due the things like, the success of the Sonic and Mario movies and such.

Comics despite the fact they were holding up Hollywood for the past decade, are not respected. Their stories are not respected. Their writers are not respected. Their art is not respected. Hollywood does not respect anyone but themselves. For comics, they see it as a pathetic boy hobby they want to turn into a girl hobby, since they assume the boys will just accept it, and see their fans as losers that they can milk for money. People at Marvel have made it clear they prefer to hire "fans" not fans. They see people that have actually read the comics as a red flag, and don't hire them. They want people who will do whatever they want with the IP; then use the 'bigot shield' when it backfires. Over actually making an adaptation.

Remember, the only reason the One Piece Live Action turned out the way it did was Oda was an executive producer and force them to follow his story. If not, the "fan" writers and "fan" directors would have made another Live Action Cowboy Bebop. Same with the Mario movie, before Nintendo intervened it was going to be another mess and then they step in.

As for schools making reading a chore for the students. It not a problem that they make students read for assignments the problem is that is likely the only time they ever read if at all. Hell, when I went to college, I knew a girl that never even read a single line of Shakespeare before a class we took together; because apparently the schools in California just gave them power-point outlines of the books and stories that were required reading. Harry Potter was often the only book they ever read for enjoyment; if they read them and not just said they did while only watching the movies. Which is why millennials obsess over it.

Watching something on TV is often a passive way of absorbing a story. Books require active absorption as you have to imagine what happening in your mind about what you are reading. One of the reasons storytelling quality has gone down in the West is because they stopped reading. Another is, they know if they play the virtue signaling game, they will be given a pass; so they don't put the work in.

No I'm talking about at least for over a decade, since games games like the last of us came out and were mega popular. I wouldn't really say that with every comicbook movie, as directors such as James gunn, josh weadon and the russo brothers I recall were comicbook fans.

From everything I have read and heard from one piece fans and youtubers nothing implies they would of done another Cowboy Bebop and that the showrunner is a passionate fan of one piece and wouldn't do anything without oda's approval. Nintendo and Mario I have no idea about, all I recall is that you had the anti woke crowd acusing it of being a feminist movie with how princess peach was portrayed in the trailer only to u-turn when the film turned out to be really popular.

You think books with pictures with link comics or managa would be at least somewhat appealing since they do have visual images to look at. Not to mention you can read a chapter like naruto in a few minutes.

Noted I think it fine to do some video and articles now and then to point out the problems to to newcomers so they see it isn't one-sided as some nh and ss fans make it out to be.

To be fair luckychi she talks about other stuff not just shipping.

Who? Are we suppose to know which dragon quest character you are referring to by instinct?

The anime had a lot of filler promoting Hinata because the staff was obsessed with her. It is why they ended Naruto marrying Hinata because that was their end goal all along. Without the anime, Hinata is a character that's barely involved in the story and barely interacts with Naruto despite professing love for him. With it, while she still isn't involved in the story that often, she is constantly by Naruto side, and constantly thinking about how much she loves him.

Most Western fans seem to hate reading anything, and prefer just to watch a tv/movie/anime and accept that as canon. I lost count of the people I have met that say they love an adaptation, that they love as well as care so much about the story, that they wish to learn more about it, but will never read the source material. Saying excuses like they want to watch all the show first before they read the book, so they won't get spoiled. Then they never read the book. Even if they do, they hold the adaptation over the source material, and will differ to that when inconsistencies happen.

I've tend to notice that with books like lord of the rings, game of thrones and Harry potter. Comics people are ethier more aware of the movies or cartoons depending on the era they grew up in and get suprised when the adaptions of comics are a mix of different stories rather than a full on adaption, though comics continuity would make it more impossible to ever full adapt stories unless their are elseworld stories. Though games have started to become as big of a medium.

My guess is because they are more accessible to watch and consume, especially with streaming services in recent years. Another reason which came from a youtuber called lily orchards who did a video on making fun of J.k.rowling, during which mentioned that due to the education system making reading more like a chore for kids, becoming less fun making it into assignments of highly revied books by adults. With some only getting back into reading when a fun book at the time like Harry potter came along.

So I wouldn't be suprised if many of the anime only watchers would view the 700 hundred chapters chore to read, even though the anime became worse than that due to filler.

I wouldn't say the pairing's behind us... (Sp recently released a acrylic of sakura confessing to naruto) Yes some people watch boruto but many people don't like the sequel series much like people don't like the new star wars... Will disney do something to make amends for their actions? It might be unlikely. Or look at the way ash's story in pokemon ended. Many things not addressed and ash never even meets his dad. But it doesn't matter enough it seems. I still wouldn't claim all of ash's fans put the series behind them. Sakura was also a lot higher than hinata in the recent poll (higher than naruto and sasuke even). Sakura vs chiyo also won the fight poll as well.... Kishimoto was likely copying the love triangle in dragon quest: the adventure of dai but probably didn't do a great job but even so i don't think sakura was hated to a huge extent. There are youtubers nowadays who openly say sakura and naruto should've been together so at least some fans know it should've happened

They did when?

Yeah I think you are looking to negatively into this, as I don't think Kishimoto only starting to like sakura at the beginning of part 2, pretty sure he was fond of sakura from the beginning of part 1.

Also I don't think sakura held too long of a grudge against naruto for the womanly comments, as she show great concern for his wellbeing when she learnt that naruto was a jinjuriki and if he is captured by the akatsuki and has his tailed beast extracted he will die. Along with the tenchi Bridge and seeing naruto in his 4 tailed transformation followed up by yamato hinting that she feels something more for naruto.

Arguably afterwards kishimoto did afterwards was slow burning development with the sakura trying feed scene and her showing having a similar pervey side like naruto when kohonahamaru showed of the sexy no justu before doing the big hug in the pain arc.

Now arguably doing the slow burn for a series as long as naruto caused long term problems as many fans failed to see and ended up thinking hinata was the love intrest due to that big pain moment. Heck this tends to be a problem for many series that do slow burn like avatar the last airbender, as not everyone saw it coming despite obvious hints.

It probably didn't help that around this time new editors came in with an anti sakura agenda to replace sakura with hinata which probably effected the writting around sakura so much that it ended up the mess that it did. Also didn't help that kishimoto became very insecure with Sakura's popularity in the west.

Pretty sure kishimoto post ending interviews are just damage control by jump to avoid the backlash with how he made the canon couples and the not a romance manga is just a poor exuse to as to why the canon couples are so bad.

I think its fine if a series makes it that one character is in love with more than one person though they got to make it eventually clear like nisekoi did. Also kishimoto should of really addressed the love confession much sooner to make it clear that sakura was in love with naruto, but also still had some feelings for sasuke.

#990934 The Great Naruto Discussion Thread

I think you need some deaths in for some suspence otherwise the conflict wouldn't look threatening. Heck it could even just be some recurring minor characters like those minor leaf chunin or jonin we see, some of the relatives like hiashi dying to protect neji and hinata or at least maybe knowing because he is old. As for the case with guy would of served the mentor death for Lee to grow and frankly naruto nre healing power made sakura look irrelevant for alot of people.

I don't really see the point of making a live action movie of Naruto, yes I know the One Piece show was said to be good therefore it's the new thing to take a manga and take it into a live action show or movie, but I have to ask for those who read OP was it really good or was it that western stuff just took a massive nosedive in the last couple of years?

I haven't watched the show, I've heard from people it's good, but I've only heard from people who never checked the manga.
As for the Naruto movie, I have so many questions and dilemmas. Like when exactly will the movie take place? What about the casting since they're kids so you have to get child actors which will be a lot more difficult, I mean for part one they're around 12 and part two I think like 15-16 can't recall exactly. So depending on the time period the movie is set you need to cast them appropriately. You can't have a 16 year old play a 12 year old. Then you need to get the look just right, the setting, what about special effect like the insane number of clones making that look good in action will be tough.
Also correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't OP still going on? So if so why make a movie about a franchise that is basically dead? If they wanted to resurrect it, then they know what must be done, not investing more money in a project which personally I think it's going to flop.
Know when you are beaten.

The live action of one piece is well received nearly everyone who watched enjoyed the adaptation, so far I have only seen one youtuber being mixed on it grandline reviews. The only real criticism I've seen people have for the show is the marine subplot they included in.

One piece is still on, infact it's getting a second anime on Netflix adapting the East blue saga by studio wit.

One Piece was not the first live action anime adaption Netflix done, just the first one that was successful.

Both. One piece has a good story, and the writing quality in the West has decline so much that people become overjoyed at something that could be even average.

Lets see FF7 gotten a lot of buzz this past week or so. Why? They had a trailer that showed Tifa pretty and in an appealing swimsuit. People are so used to female characters being ugly and frumpy at the best of time, gamers were overjoyed.

As for why they are doing this. Naruto was huge a decade ago. They probably hope the movie could revitalize viewership and interest. Will it? Who knows but doubtful. Naruto has more problems than just its end pairings. Naruto's obsession with Sasuke, his eventual lack of growth, his quest to become hokage becomes forgotten about, and so on.

It depends what they want to do with it. if they want to do a "Naruto Universe," they will probably start from the beginning. If it just one movie, it will probably be the most popular arc or just some original story that is a weird amalgamation of Naruto. Or it will just be Naruto in name only to get people in seats.

Still the most likely out come is this: Imagine a gay transgender Steve Urkel chasing after Edward Cullen, when he not constantly moaning about how oppressed he is, while Ken Watanabe playing Kakashi keeps pulling his mask down to show his face every five seconds, and  Awkwafina playing Sakura will constantly quip with a smug look on her face as well as she will on social media declare that all fans of Naruto are sexist that shouldn't complain about anything as well as saying they shouldn't watch it.

Yeah is doubt they do that type casting they are likely to do what Kishimoto said in an interview, naruto played by an American, sakura a European and sasuke asian

Battle  shounen anime don't translate well into live action if you follow the original storyline. For example, if you attempt a live action adaptation of Dragon Ball sticking to the manga's plot, it would feel odd and likely fail. It would be better if they focused on the stories of Master Roshi or Grandpa Gohan, mirroring Bruce Lee's films. In Naruto, they would need to choose a ninja who doesn't seem out of place in live action for adaptation, but the title of the work complicates this. I have the feeling that the same will happen with Naruto as it did with Saint Seiya in Latin countries. It was very popular for decades but lost ground to Dragon Ball. In Naruto's case, it will be to One Piece

I can see them being able to adapt the land of waves arc at least for a movie, with the only changes I see is perhaps sakura getting more involved

Some of those trials could invole death to help them grow, like I said hiashi for neji and hinata or guy for Lee.

#990969 The Great Naruto Discussion Thread

Posted by BlueStarSaber on 06 March 2024 - 10:55 PM in Naruto General

In regards to Western films and media while 2023 wasn't really a good year, mainly for Disney and superhero films. There was still some great things that came out like across the spiderverse, oppenheimer, Mario movie, the last of us TV series, live action one piece and arguably barbie depending on who you ask.

Disney films arguably have gotten a bit too repetitive in the type humour tropes and story telling they have done so they are in a bit of a decline, though hopefully films they do this year like deadpool 3 will do really well. Superheroes marvel got a bit lazy with the humour, their standard formula minus gaurdians 3 and loki season 2 and arguably the effects though that genreally been a problem with studios in genreal with how they treat effect artists. While dc failures are partly due to the fact the are rebooting under James gun, so no one wants to see them until then at least.

Granted films have also been affect by the writers and actors strike and that has probably effected alot ofbbehind the scenes for most films, hopefully now that's been sorted you can get back to better quality, with dune part 2 being a promising start.

Now for one piece live action many of the first time fans are probably those who may have wanted to try out one piece, but never could because they were etheir put off of oda's art style or episode length. Because let's face it for some a 1000s chapters or episodes is alot of time and commitment. An 8 to 10 episode season can be alot more easier to digest.

Also the casting is very great for one piece, inaki in particulary really captures the character of luffy, heck even oda comments that he make lines work for his portrayal of luffy work that he think wouldn't work in the manga.

For the naruto live action movie quality, well at the very least I can see being decent at least sine the action in shang chi was good. Whether or not it will attract new fans or old one depends, if it stays true to most of the things that made naruto originally great I can see it drawing them in or if it does changes that are better than in the managa I can see some prefer the live action movie over the manga. Mainly the romance and portrayal of the female cast, if it does them better than what kishimoto did, I could see some people checking it out to perhaps see something they wished the manga did.
