Ummmm...I am lost. What is up with this messed up ideal of "love?" Both the Uchiha and the Senju have no clue what "love" is, unless I am missing something. I am totally lost.

I'm surprised. --Click here to view--
I actually liked this chapter. A lot, actually. I expected a carbon copy of the SasuNaru relationship, but it's actually not. Madara's somehow different than Sasuke, he loses his cool easily and apologizes more easily. Basically, he's more bi-polar than the Sasuke we know. laugh.gif Never thought that was possible. And Hashirama ... the one thing I noticed about him compared to Naruto was that he's a lot more sensitive and nice than his parallel. Naruto's more rude and blunt. But the big thing is that idealistic peaceful attitude he has. It's the same as Naruto's basically, but Hashirama developed this outlook earlier. Interesting stuff.

And Kishi's really driving home to us how badly war messes things up, isn't he? I was surprised that he had another brother and it was sad when Itama died. But probably one of my favorite parts was how much of a jerk Hashirama's dad was. So the Senju isn't an entirely soft Clan? Realistic, it's nice that Kishimoto is showing the good and bad of the Senju. And apparently, Tobirama was always so militant and cool lol. I also couldn't help noticing that Madara looks exactly like Kid Sasuke in the face. I almost thought for a second I was looking at Sasuke, if it wasn't for the longer hair. rolleyes.gif Uchihas are so cute when they're kids ... then they turn into psycopaths.

Really liked that connecting moment with Hashirama and Madara, it's like they're the same but different. Like Naruto & Sasuke, but in different ways. I almost feel like shipping HashiMada because of this chapter (friendship, of course). Too bad I know it's going to end badly. sleep.gif

Looks like Kishimoto is aiming for a vague parallel so far. I'm guessing when/if we get introduced to Mito, it'll be the same. Guess I wasn't that far off with Kishimoto pulling a vague parallel somewhere out of this.

Overall, a pretty good chapter. If Kishimoto keeps this up, maybe I can tolerate the "Where's Sakura" question a little longer.

This was a pretty enjoyable chapter. I liked how Hashirama and Madara's relationship was portrayed. I find this era to be quite fascinating. I just hope that this flashback doesn't take too long. Same thing goes for this whole Sasuke arc. I don't want another instance of Kishi "forgetting" about Sakura.

Tobirama is a boss even as a child.
Hashi and Madara's relationship is so much better than Naruto and Sasuke's. It makes no sense to me that Kishi can write things like that and screw up with the main bond in his manga.
Also Itama's death was more emotional than Neji's death, poor boy gangbanged by 5 Uchiha.
I really enjoy this flashback it feels more real than the actual story. I won't mind if this flashback lasts a long time.

Actually, I think Kid!Madara is closer to Obito than Sasuke. Even their faces are similar. Perhaps Obito's blood is the most strongly related blood out of the Uchiha. Hell, if I think about it, Hashirama is probably a lot like Kakashi. If Kakashi and Obito ever made up, their relationship would probably be most similar to this. Kakashi constantly guilt-tripping himself about his past, Obito always yelling out at him for it.

I enjoyed this chapter. And don't know about you guys but their relationship reminded me of Ino and Sakura's. Hashirama reminded me of the 6 years old Sakura who was bullied and always cried, they even have the same standing position and Madara reminded me of Ino who was fiery even at that age...
Not to mention the way Kishi drew the last chapter is so similar to Ino/Sakura fight.... Hmmmm.

Nah i dont think so they cant be a carbon copy, Hashirama had a will for peace, also as Madara, the only things that reminded me of Ino/sakura was the part that Tobirama protected Hashirama.

Looks like Madara also was good like Naruto ofc is not a carbon copy but looks like he had his own downfall, about Hashirama he was intelligent and smart but naive.

So.... Hashirama was an person that completely hated the fact that children went to fight and die at wars with an young age.... and yet up to this day 12 years old kids graduate from the konoha academy and go to missions that can be their last.

You know, Obito plan isn't sounding so bad anymore, maybe the shinobi world have no fixing after all.

....okay...if that isn't an oversimplification dry.gif

No, they go on boring D or C rank missions with an experienced JOUNIN where the greatest dangers are random bandits (I mean Team 7's Wave mission was a misclassified A-rank ). And they don't get sent to die at 7 years old.

In times of war I guess like in Kakashi's era, they do end up sending younger kids out. But even Kakashi was 13, Obito and Rin 15 if I'm not wrong, which is way better than poor Kawarama. And the impression I get is that before the era of shinobi villages it was CONSTANT warfare. The ninja villages reduced it by allowing the ninja clans to band together and honestly giving them more leverage against all the feudal lords who were using them for their battles.

Actually, no. Back then Hashirama's generation was living in hell. But what Hashirama did to fix it (or at least make it better) was to make sure that no one under the age of 13 would be plunged into the front lines. Also, if anyone as young as 13 and under has to be deployed, they would be supervised by Jounins. And at most, these kids would be doing support. We saw it in Kakashi Gaiden where Team Minato was given the mission of going behind the enemies and take out their supply route.

It's still dangerous as Kakashi was only a rookie Jounin and the other two were only chuunin, but it's a hell lot better than Hashirama's era. Hell, I doubt Hiruzen would've been callous enough to send them on such a dangerous mission without being sure they had a chance of surviving. He knew for a fact Minato can be at their side in an instant once he was done mowing down the enemies. Once Minato returned, the kids would be safe. It was a gamble, but it was a hell lot better than sending them on the front lines where they had smaller chances of surviving.

Not only that, Hashirama seemed to have stressed the importance of the adults protecting the children fighting with them at all costs. This is likely the basis of a Jounin sensei's duties and responsibilities.

Besides, I don't see Konohamaru and his team anywhere in this war, do you?? that's what Hashirama had changed from his time.

@fireandice: I couldn't agree more.

Well there's something i did not understand i hope it's just mistranslation.
Madara said he had 4 brothers and all of them were dead.
How could he get his brother eyes if their brothers were already dead long time ago?
when he was still a kid?

Lol at hashirama the PG rating.

Actually the one who invent the grade system and academy ninja is tobirama.
Maybe he is the one who create that "ninja should not allowed to show emotion".
And I think he is sarutobi teacher.

The way I see it, Hashirama provided the basic premise, and asked Tobirama to fulfill it on his deathbed when he passed on his position.

he did. it's explained in databook. Tobirama modernized the village by building the ninja accademy, create the missions, instucted ranks (genin, chuunin and jounin).

Kishi loves his flashbacks. Is Naruto the manga with the most amounts of flashbacks? Can anyone find me one that has more? I sometimes don't mind flashbacks to give some backstory to some characters but not when its used so often. It breaks the momentum. How many has it been in this war arc alone? Bee and A, Kabutops, Obito. I'm not even going to bother trying to think of more because that's enough for me.

This was a nice chapter, it explained the background of the era before the villages nicely. It was so dangerous, you could not reveal your family name to anyone only your personal name. It was a living hell for the ninja of the time yes, its as Obito once told Sasuke, in the era before the villages, the ninja were merely mercenary bands and were hired among the countries to do their bidding. The ninja were populous but not organized and existed on their own reasons though some had alliances such as the Nara, Yakamana, and Akamichi clans under the rule of the Sarotobi. Cause this was centuries after the sage of the six paths many types of clans existed in this era, there were no ninja wars either, it was all just fight for the job then leave stuff for ninja. They also fought among themselves for dominance and reputation to be hired, as the reason the Senju and Uchiha always clashed.

It can also be thought that at this time, the main employee soldiers on the continent were the Samurai which is why in one chapter Hanzo told Mifune that why do you think the lands switched from Samurai academy and incorporated Ninja villages?

Anyways yeah it was after enough fighting Hashirama and Madara joined to make the leaf village. Soon the other nations followed.

It was a sad chapter because they both felt terrible with having lost their own brothers. It was kinda like how bad living conditions back then had people to gain larger families for the possibly of one surviving. Its interesting to see where this will go. Considering the Uzimaki clan was their distant blood relative cousin, I can imagine in this flashback seeing Mito and they put forward an alliance to deal with the Uchiha. We really need to see where this all leads, it is a good flashback for once.
